MA/ RI/ CT beaches

I know this isn't a local board but the Boston vacation thread got a lot of traffic. @phira @mrsmack617 What are your favorite beaches?! I live exactly in that corner where Ma/ Ri/ Ct meet so we normally go to Misquamicut or Newport, RI since it's the closest drive but I'd love to try any new ones!  Gloucester and the north shore are kind of too far away for a day trip and even the Cape is almost 2 hours drive. Is there anything closer to actual Boston? Or any experience with areas like Old Saybrook/ Mystic?

Re: MA/ RI/ CT beaches

  • My friends are constantly going to Revere Beach (it always looks too crowded for me). There is also Carson Beach in Southie but I have heard it's not so safe. I prefer the beach at Provincetown and I like to take the water ferry there from Boston.

  • Narragansett and Bonnet Shores in Rhode Island.
  • It won't let me ETA but these are beaches closer to Boston. I am not sure about RI or CT beaches.
  • Hammonasset beach in Madison, CT is pretty awesome - lots of bike trails, and a nature center, too. Not too far from your corner of CT/MA/RI.
  • Also: have you been to Block Island? You can get a ferry from Point Judith, New London, or Newport! It is more of a really long day trip or weekend trip, though.
  • @stef42188 Hammonasset looks awesome!! It's the same distance as Misquamicut and half the price- sweet!

I haven't been to Block Island, I'd love to go for a night sometime and also Martha's Vineyard, I've never been there.

  • I know MA beaches - like Singing Beach or Crane's which are on the North Shore.

I vote with @stef42188 about Block Island.  It's definitely worth the trip and it's so much fun.

  • Ah I totally butchered your screen name in the question, my bad! I tried! lol

Ah, so many wonderful memories drying out on Saturday and Sunday mornings at Kalmus and Craigsville!
  • @stef42188 Went to Hammonassett today and loved it! It was so much less crowded than Misquamicut and Narragansett.

  • I live more in the central ma area, but BF and I are supposed to be going to the beach Wednesday, might check one of these places out, they sound great.  We usually go to Salisbury because you can park on the street for free and sometimes Newport since BF is from Rhode Island.

  • My mother and father in law like to go to horseneck beach. There are private beaches in mystic/niantic area of CT, which is where I grew up.  There is also Ocean beach in New London, CT, but it's not as nice as others.
I am partial to the RI beaches personally.

Awesome!! Glad you liked it! I personally went to Jennings beach in Fairfield last weekend and Sherwood Island in Westport this weekend. I think I'll do a CT beach tour :)
