Receiving line

Are you ladies doing a receiving line? If so, how are you doing it?

Re: Receiving line

  • We're not doing one at the church but instead, to make sure we thank everyone for coming, we're going to do it as people enter the reception room.

  • I feel like we should do one to make sure that we see everyone but I am not sure when to do that or if I even want to with over 200 people, it will be one long line.

  • No, we're going to do table visits during dinner.

  • After the recessional we are going back into the church and greeting each row as they leave.

  • We're going to visit tables, since it'll be easier with the way our ceremony and reception are set up.

  • We'll probably do a receiving line and then visit people at their tables at dinner, which seems to be the common thing at most weddings I've been to. It always seems that even if you do a receiving line or the bride and groom dismiss rows, people get miffed if you don't stop by and say hi at the reception.

  • I'm not sure if we are going to do one of not. We are going to do a first look and will be doing all of our pictures ahead of time. I really wanted to join our guests during the cocktail hour. That way we could mingle and thank our guests then. I really didn't want to have to rush while eating dinner so we could visit tables.
  • Our ceremony space is one floor below the ballroom.  We're going to do the recessional and walk up the steps and form the receiving line in the hall as they enter the ballroom for cocktail hour.

  • We'll probably just do table visits since we have a limited time to be at our venue as it is.

  • Im not sure how Im going to go about this. Im leaning more towards visiting tables as we are on a time restraint.
  • No receiving line for us.  As soon as we say 'I Do'...we and our wedding party are instructed to go straight to the limo bus.  We are on a time constraint.  We will visit each table.

  • We are doing one as people enter the cocktail/social hour at the reception.  There isn't time to do it at the ceremony.  We have a couple hours between the 2, so we can finish up pictures, and have a toast with the WP before guests arrive.  Our reception venue has a huge lobby area (it's a concert venue), so there will be plenty of room to greet guests as they are walking into the ballroom.  We'll also have the photobooth set up and corn hole (bean bag toss) set up on the side of the ballroom so people have lots they can do while socializing.
  • No receiving line, we are going to do table visits during the reception :)

  • Those of you doing table visits, how is this typically done? Do you eat then visit tables as your guests are eating? I've only been to weddings where they have done a receiving line as the guests entered the cocktail hour.

  • We are doing one. Our ceremony and reception are at the same place so we will probably just do the receiving line after we walk out and before everyone enters the reception area. It's hard to explain but our ceremony area is outside and our reception area is inside so when people go from the outside to the inside we will do the receiving line...

That's why I asked. I would be worried we didn't get to everyone. And I don't want to take time away from people dancing and stuff.

  • We are not doing a receiving line as most PP said we will visit during dinner.

  • Ugh, I am lost on this one too. Is it possible to have a receiving line for 250 people only last a half hour? We are planning on being at the back of the church to say hi to people as they are leaving after the ceremony. There is one set of big doors in the middle and then a set of doors on the sides of the church. So, I figured if some people do not want to wait to say hi to us they can leave from the other side doors. Does that make sense? But I am also having issues with timing. We are doing some photos before, but we are doing the pictures together after the ceremony and we only have about an hour and a half during the cocktail hour. For some reason this is the most stressful part about planning so far :(
