I bitch a lot about my boss but today I love her.

She just gave me the go ahead to play the USA vs. Germany game of the two big screens in the second floor conference room.

Re: Cool bosses

  • I don't say it enough because mostly I'm just frustrated waiting to start work, but my bosses (partners) at my law firm are pretty awesome too.  After a particularly fun work dinner last summer which involved super fancy wine, about a week later our hiring partner was walking around the office like Santa Clause handing out bottles of said fancy wine.  Everyone liked it so much, he bought a case and shared with everyone.

I have also sung karaoke with our firm's managing partner.  And he was the one who initiated the karaoke.  So there's that.

  • We have a family business, and my bosses (parents) are cool this week because things FINALLY quieted down, so they're staying home.

I'm watching Bob's Burgers and dealing with any issues that arise, but every day, my mom has called at 3pm and told me GO THE HELL HOME AND RELAX.

Loving this shit. They should stay home every day.

  • I love most of my bosses. Paki is a cool guy, he always has some funny stories to tell. Plus he is very laid back and will always work with you if something comes up. As long as shifts are covered he doesn't care. He likes to talk a lot so I have to make sure I have nowhere to go if I stop by his office. They usually last 20 mins ha.

My other boss is really cool too. He is one of my geology professors and he is like a mentor. He was the one who got me the work study job with Paki two years ago. He has given me a new manager position and has introduced me to several people. He feels like a grandfather to me. He has so many cool things to talk out and is very sweet.

My third boss is really funny. He is very sarcastic and likes to tell me I'm fired all the time ha. My mentor actually introduced me to him! I find him very entertaining and he is a pretty relaxing boss.

My fourth one works in the collections part of the museum. She is very nice and really upbeat. I haven't known her long but I think we will get a long great. She answers my questions since I'm really interested in what collections does. Overall, i love my bosses. I got very lucky.

  • I love my boss. He is one strange guy and would probably never make it in a normal working environment. Just this morning he walks in with a big skull made out of chalk board. He sat it on the receptionist desk and told us that is where we are going to start writing messages to each other. Also he gave me an extra week of vacation as a wedding gift.
  • My boss is lazy.

If we don't have a client scheduled in the morning, he won't show up until the afternoon. He's not motivated to work at all.

On the other hand, if he promises me he will come in so that we can get stuff done, (we have a shit-ton of work that ALWAYS needs to be done) and he bails on me, he buys the office lunch. It started out that he would get me a shamrock shake from McD's but now that I'm eating better I told him he couldn't do that anymore.

  • My boss is fabulous. I worked for her at a different company years ago and agreed to work for her when she started her own company.

We're a 4 person company (3 women in the office, a guy out of state) so we're tiny and nimble. We're small enough that we can do fun things. Recent examples:

    - She got us all FitBits so we could get competitive
    - Drinks to celebrate even the smallest victories (being a startup is miserable sometimes)
    - Choosing the hotel with a mini-waterpark rather than normal business amenities
    - Staying at her summer home for a day before a meeting with a nearby client

She's definitely tough on everyone but she makes you endlessly loyal.

  • My boss it pretty cool.  I call or email that I'm taking days off.  I don't ask, I tell.

It's funny, but he knows I take off on slow days when others are in the office. Even when off I'm more accessible than his "manager" son.      If the phones are slow I will call him up and say "I'm leaving to hang out with DH".  He is always "okay, have fun".

I haven't physically seen him in 11 months.  Crazy. I'm going to make a trip down to NOLA in August to say hi.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • My boss came in an hour late to work because he stayed home to watch the game. (Although, he was working on his laptop at the same time, he said.)  He also frequently plays the games on his laptop during work.
  • I hate one of my bosses.  She micromanages everyone and treats us like we're all idiots and then freaks out on you if she thinks you've done something wrong (which 99% of the time you haven't).  I often get told to take some leadership initiative on things but then get yelled at when I do cos I'm not following her schedule of things.  She also refuses to do any work we could do, as in helping with occasional supervision or class coverage.  I can't wait for her to get a new job at another school, and I know she's been applying.  I just hope she never moves back to a school I'm at in the future.

  • As much as I complain about work, I do like my boss a lot. I worked with her in another role before she changed positions and became my boss, which was an answer to my prayers because my old boss was absolutely horrible. I love her but she drives me crazy sometimes. She micromanages when we don't need it and is nowhere to be found when we need guidance.

  • I used to love my boss until he up and quit on us with no warning. Haven't heard from him since.

I was recently transitioned into new responsibilities and I am now under a different boss, and she is really cool. What I like about this department is that I don't have to ask to take vacation, I just make sure there is coverage, enter it in the team calendar, and send an FYI email. I can pretty much come and go as I want, there is no micromanaging whatsoever. And the boss I'm under now is really sweet and fun.

  • Y'all, I love my boss. We have had a couple of weeks of pretty much straight hell, hahaha, some new disaster every day, and we have both been stressing and snippy.

I walked in this morning to two notes on my desk. One had five dollars in ones paperclipped to it with a note that said "Good for one mocha in peace" with the MOST jacked-up attempt at a peace sign I'd ever seen, and a note pointing to George Washington on the top single saying "George is happy too", and he'd drawn a smiley face on it. The other was just a note saying thank you. They about made me cry.

I came here after getting fired from my shitty retail job, and I feel like I need to send my manager at the retail store a HUGE thank you card for firing me.

  • My boss is pretty great. I'm the only other woman on our team, and whenever she travels anywhere for work, she always gets me something girlier/different than what she brings back for the guys. We spend most of our one-on-one reviews talking about hairstyles and nail polish colours and where we want to vacation, or just chatting in general, and she's so easygoing.

The best part is that she never micromanages us. As long as we're handling our caseloads well, responding to our customers in a timely fashion, and our stats are up, we can spend half our day cruising the internet and she couldn't care less. Also, she regularly surprises us with little treats like doughnuts on a Friday morning :)
