Same Bridesmaid Dress from Different Stores?

A BM of mine mentioned that a store near her carries the same line of dress I want to go with (we live 10 hours apart), and if she buys it there, the alterations are free. If my other BM's get their dress from one store, and she gets her's there, would that work? I've heard that sometimes the color can be off if they are not from the same dye. Not sure if that is accurate or not. Thanks!

Re: Same Bridesmaid Dress from Different Stores?

  • It is true sometimes the dye can be slightly off if the gowns aren't all run in the same batch. Honestly though it's going to look so close nobody will notice. I'd let your friend get the dress where she can have her alterations done for free, especially since she is long distance.

So it is the same dress?  I wouldn't worry about it one bit.

  • Also, dye lots are mixed by computers now, so the chance the colors will come out different is even lower now.  I think most bridal salons use that excuse to keep all of the BM dress sales with them.
  • It will be fine.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Yeah I ordered all mine from the same shop, despite the distance apart I am from my BM so they'd be from the same dye lot- and they ended up being different shaded anyways! I say let your friend order them from her shop.

  • My sister ordered her BM dress for my wedding from Alfred Angelo's up in Pittsburgh.  My friend ordered the same dress from a store in Baltimore.  Two different stores in two different states, and the colors matched perfectly.

The difference in dye-lots is really not as big of an issue as it used to be back in the day.  And if there is a slight variation in color it will most likely be so insignificant that you may not even notice.
