Taller than my fiancé

Hello :) I'm getting married this August and am trying to figure out what type of shoes I should wear! I'm a little taller than my fiancé and sometimes I feel self conscious about it so I'm not sure about heels.. Our wedding is going to be outside, casual, simple and sweet, natural with a bohemian flare and my dress is short, about knee length and off white, flowy, "Free People" style. I want to wear heels because I think that looks best with shorter dresses, but I don't want to be towering over him. Thanks for your help and input!

Re: Taller than my fiancé

  • Wear whatever you want. If you don't want to "tower" over him, stick to kitten heels, or other smaller heels.

Actually, that sort of Bohemian-ish style looks better with ballet flats or flat sandals, IMO.  Some pictures of similarly styled brides:

  • My six feet tall daughter wore ballet shoes.

  • Thank you!
  • I bought a cute pair of heels but then I tried them on and was significantly taller than my FI, so I went with a pair of flats from DSW. They're super comfortable, and they're cute! I really hate wearing heels, so this worked out better anyways.
  • if the dress is plain some embellished sandals would be cute. also I agree that ballet shoes would be adorable.
  • I have the same height issue, but my dress is full length. I plan on wearing toms. They wont go at all with the dressier style, but people wont see them much and they've got a lot of inside history with me and my fiance. But i sympathize on the height thing. I may bring a pair of heels for individual pics at some point. Not sure
  • I feel your pain. I'm 5'11'' and FI is 6'1". If I ever wear heels with him I end up being taller and I hate it. I'm going with flats for our wedding day... plus I am more comfortable in flats.

  • If it bugs you, wear flats. That's really all you can do. I initially tried on a high-low ball gown and felt that the look would really only be "complete" if worn with heels. My fiancé and I are the exact same height and I don't want to be taller in the photos, so ultimately I passed on that dress. But now I have an awesome sheath dress and probably no one will notice I'm wearing flats, plus my fiancé will be wearing black cowboy boots, so he'll actually have a little height on me. (It's not that we think cowboy boots are trendy with a tux, it's just that he's from west Texas and refuses to wear dress shoes and I don't really have strong feelings about it.)

  • I love this! I am JUST shorter than my hubby to be (I'm 6 foot!) and have opted for these amazing winged sandals under my dress:
