Bridesmaid gifts HELP

We are having a secret society/venetian mask themed wedding.  I am having my bachelorette party in New Orleans.  I was thinking about buying my bridesmaids an authentic new orleans mask of their choosing that they could wear at the wedding and also have for events after.  Do you think they would prefer to buy their own masks and I give them something more practical like a clutch or earrings?

So, your theme sounds super cool. But. If it is something for them to wear during your wedding, it's not really a gift. It's more like, a required uniform. If you have the budget to get them the mask and another gift (doesn't have to be expensive) go for it. Generally I would recommend shopping for them like it's their birthday, not something related to your wedding. Best of luck!

  • How often do they attend events where they need these masks?
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

Is this their kinda thing?  I would never wear a mask.  Not even for your wedding.  I would rather you buy me something practical.  The gifts don't have to be identical.  Shop for the girls as if it's their birthday.
  • If I received this I would wear it at the wedding and then never again. If you do this and give it to them as a gift, I wouldn't have it be THE gift. For their actual BM gift, get each girl something individual, like shopping for their bday. Your Bach sounds really fun!!

  • One rule of thumb:  Anything given to the bridesmaids to wear or use at the wedding is not a gift-it is a required part of a uniform.

Another: Choose gifts for your bridesmaids according to their own interests, not your own interests or themes.

If your bridesmaids are really into this kind of thing, then you might go for it (as long as they are not meant to be worn at the wedding). Otherwise, I'd pick something else for each of them.  The gifts don't all have to be exactly the same-they should all just be of roughly the same value.
  • I would only do the masks if they are something that they are really into. One rule of thumb is that when you're buying your bridesmaids gift that you shop for each girl like you were for their birthday gift.

Whatever your gift is to them, make sure it's something that they would actually want and use again.  Anything else is a flat-out waste.
