Antigua? St. Lucia? Help!

My fiance and I are looking to book our honeymoon at an all-inclusive (preferably Adults Only, but not a deal-breaker) resort somewhere in the Caribbean. We are not set on a place but would like to avoid Mexico, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic as we have traveled there before. We would love a place that has the option for excursions but also can easily spend the day lounging on the beach with a drink in hand... We could use any suggestions on what resort to choose... We are overwhelmed by choices! One major thing: My fiance has Celiac's and is not able to eat gluten of any kind. If anyone has had this specific issue and dealt with resorts on it that would be especially helpful. Thank You!!!

I can't speak on the Celiac accommodations (but call now and find out if they can accommodate you or not), but we are going to the Sandals St. Lucia (Regency La Toc). My sister and BIL have been to several Sandals resorts and LOVE them all (they also did St. Lucia on their honeymoon). My BIL just raved about them to us last week, and how they really do take care of everything for you. I'm confident in our decision (we ruled out anything European, since we need a break from being touristy and just want a week to turn our phones off and do just what you said- lounge on the beach with a drink in hand!) and am looking forward to it!

  • I second Sandals St Lucia. My FI & I are going to the Grande next month, and couldn't be more excited. I'm sure if you call them, they can provide some information about their food.
  • DR!!! J/k that's just my favorite place in the world so I'm biased ;p

I went to St Lucia for a day (cruise) so I won't be much help, but I loved it. The water was crystal clear and gorgeous!!!

I know you said no Mexico, Jamaica, or DR. We said the same thing, and ended up booking our HM to the Hard Rock Resort and Casino in Punta Cana. We leave in 3 weeks! While I was browsing their website and looking at the restaurants, I noticed that most (if not all) of their menus marked GF items. As you're researching different resorts, check out their menus and reviews. I would hope that a resort as well known and popular as Sandals would be able to accommodate the dietary concerns of someone with Celiac. As pp mentioned, it doesn't hurt to call or email.

  • We are going to Curtain Bluff in Antigua, but if you are going from December to March, it is EXTREMELY expensive! We have heard fabulous things about the resort and FIs good friend is native Antiguan and praised the resort for working with local fishermen. Not sure about the kid thing - probably kid free but that wasn't important to me.

  • We are going to Sandals Regency La Toc in St Lucia (IN A MONTH!!!) for our honeymoon and I'm so excited! I'll be happy to update once we get back :)
  • I know Puerto Rico doesn't have kids free hotels nor all inclusive but  there are some great hotels and areas here that can be a tad more affordable than the other small islands. I know you said no DR but they do ave some amazing all-inclusives.

I love the  caribbean but since I live here we are likely having our HM either @ Disney/Universal or Europe.

We considered Sandals St. Lucia, and ended up at Coconut Bay instead for various reasons (cost, proximity to the airport, etc.). CB has a family-oriented side and an adults-only side, so we booked a room for the Harmony (adults-only) side and spent most of our time there -- it has its own pool, bar, beach access, etc. People warned us that the Atlantic side may be too choppy to swim, but we didn't find that at all. There was more seaweed, but they're really good about raking it up. We were also VERY thankful for the breeze on that side of the island, which kept us from sweating even in 40C weather.

We did get a chance to tour Sandals St. Lucia, and it is a pretty resort. I found that the building facades and decor overall were a bit nicer, but the pool areas were comparable, as were the bars and restaurants. The beach area and lounge chairs there actually weren't as nice as what we had at CB. It would have cost us about 3 - 4 grand (USD) more to stay at Sandals in a comparable room for the same period of time, and we both agreed that it wouldn't have been worth the huge disparity in price, as did the people we were travelling with. That being said, CB is a 3.5 - 4 star resort, so don't expect butler service, etc.

Overall, St. Lucia is stunning, no matter where you stay. It's by far the most beautiful Caribbean island I've seen, and we're already planning to go back within the next couple of years. The rainforest and botanical gardens are stunning, and the volcano and sulphur springs are pretty cool. I would highly recommend it over Antigua.

    ETA further detail.
