So, the wedding is of a good friend of mine from high school and his FI. They are both teachers, and currently live in Shanghai teaching English to Chinese students. They are flying back to the U.S. to get married. I asked my friend a few months ago in an email if they had a registry, as I could not find one online. They do not due to their current situation (the program only lasts a few years, and they do not know where they will end up after that). He told me "No gifts, but feel free to make a donation to a charitable cause in our honor." (I know, not recommended, but that's what I was told).
I was still considering bringing a card with U.S. money in it to the wedding, but I want to make sure that this would still be acceptable, given that they would have to most likely either use it here before returning to China or have it converted to Chinese currency. I do not know where they are going on their honeymoon, if they are even going on a honeymoon right after the wedding, or how long they will remain in the U.S. after the wedding. Should I figure out how to have it converted to Chinese currency before giving it to them? Or is it acceptable to give them U.S. money (either cash or a check)? What do you ladies think? Thanks!
