April 2013 Weddings

Getting ready the day of

So I'm trying to figure out where my bridesmaids and myself will be getting ready the day of the wedding. The ceremony is at 4:30, but the plan is to get to the church at 2:30ish to decorate it, get dressed and start pictures by 3:15 because we are doing them all before. I don't want to leave the 10 guests not included just hanging around at the restaurant for an hour after the ceremony while we do pictures- that would be boring for them, so I want to get them done before. Anyway!

So I always pictured myself getting ready at my mom's house, which has been my house since I was 1, with my girls, in the living room, getting ready and having fun. FI and his side will be at our house, so I can't use that. But apparently that can't happen now, because my brother and his family have to stay at my mom's and their crap will be everywhere (when they visit it's like they move in) and the kids are at a very loud, temper tantrum stage, so I don't really want to be around that while getting ready.  Just not for that day. So, talk me down from being bridezillay in the fact that I want to email my brother and say, get a hotel room!! I spent money traveling to your wedding, the least you could do is the same for me- plan everything yourself so it's easy for me for one day! But no. So, that's my whine and I have to get over it, but it's just kind of sad losing one of the little things you'd always pictured on your wedding day :/

On that note- where is everyone else getting ready? Hotels? Home?

  • Does your venue have  a space for you to get ready in? Mine does, but it is an ugly classroom (we are getting married at the aquarium) and I really can't see myself getting ready there.

I'm getting ready at the hotel because my wedding is out of town. But I'm not even sure which hotel. I want to get ready at the hotel that FI and I will be staying at the wedding night, but we need to start getting ready at like 10:30 and there is no way that I will be able to check in that early and I don't want to pay for it the night before so that we can have it during the day because it is a pretty expensive room. But we are having first look pictures and it s a beautiful hotel, so I kind of want them to be there.

I'll probably end up getting ready at the hotel that my mom and sisters are going to be staying at.

  • Thankfully my mom just said she'll handle it, they have friends in town who've offered to help out that day so she's going to talk to them about making that work just for the day! Phew. Hopefully it all works out!

Yeah- it's tough with the hotel rooms because that does get pricey! Maybe you can go to that hotel after getting ready to do the first look pics?

  • I'm getting ready in my parents hotel room which is a block away from our venue. My apartment is small and poorly lit, 30minutes away and in a less photogenic neighborhood and we have a dog. It was an easy choice.

  • I got a suite at a hotel the night before and the wedding night so we could use that to get ready.... FI will get ready at our townhouse
  • I also have the bridal suite the night before our wedding and the night of our wedding. FI will be getting a seperate hotel room the night of the wedding and will get ready there the morning of the wedding.

  • We're getting married out of town so I'll be getting ready in our bridal suite at the hotel. FI and I will probably get ready together, in fact.
  • For us, finding a spot to get ready was a huge pain. We don't want to see eachother before and we cannot get ready at the church. So we went back and forth where we both should stay and what would work better and after  a week of that we just made a decision and are going to stick with it.

We were planning on booking the 'getting ready room' at our hotel for the girls and the guys would get ready at our house. Well most of my girls are out of town and I wouldn't ask them to get a hotel for 2 nights, so we decided on just renting our hotel room for Friday night as well as Saturday (almost $100 cheaper than the getting ready room and same size). FI will stay at the hotel for the night, girls will stay at my house, we are getting ready bright and early and after the salon we are going to the hotel, and FI will be going back to our house lol. So we will swap. It sounds way more complicated but it works!

I hope everything gets figured out for you!

  • The guys are getting ready in our suite (we get one free night of the wedding, so we just booked an extra night for FI to stay in - as we're not seeing each other pre-wedding anyway). For the girls, we're getting our hair and make up done at the salon and then dressing/jewelry/pictures/etc at my parent's house. I guess we were lucky in that my parents house is super convenient to our church (as it's the church I grew up going to) so we really just had to figure out the guys...and they're easier to figure out anyway!
