How much can be inscribed?

FI picked out his wedding ring this weekend and it should be in sometime this week or next. When I go to pick it up I'm going to have the inside engraved with something, but I forgot to ask how many letters/characters would fit.

Approximately how much were you able, and/or allowed, to inscribe on your FI's ring? He picked out a pretty standard size wedding ring (it's more decorative than a plain wedding band so I guess it's on the thicker side) and his finger is a size 8 (so that's pretty standard as well).

I think it depends on the jeweler and how large the the print they use is.

We got Love and Kisses on DH's and it takes up about half of the ring and his ring size is a 11/12. 8 sounds small to me....DH has thin fingers but he does have bigger knuckles.

EDIT: we also have our wedding date there but written 4/17/10

Oh, hahaha... Guess FI has smaller than normal fingers then! Woops!

Alright, I think I may have to just call the jeweler to find out exactly what can be done. Or maybe I'll just go there with a few different ideas and find out which ones work and which don't.

Thats probably best. I would imagine they can use different fonts and sizes ours is a little on the bigger side I would think. (we did not get my ring inscribed)

I think I got 30 characters (including spaces) engraved in MH's ring. 30 may have been the limit, for the ring/jeweler I had. I remember juuusssstttt squeaking in under the limit.
