There's a reason people have gone away from essentially arranged marriages.  This is so ass backwards... I just can't...
  • Wait. To get legally married in NY, you have to both apply in person to get the marriage license. So, either they're not legally married or they did apply for the license together in person and are lying about having never met.
I doubt they are legally married. At the end of the show when they have to "divorce" it would be a PITA to do the paperwork, so they probably signed something that looked legal but wasn't.

wow, people will do anything for ratings.

My uncle and his partner married this week after THIRTY FIVE YEARS together. Shame on them for ruining marriage for us straight people.
Mine are too! They're getting married next month and have been together 35 years as of March.

But clearly their example is ruining marriage for everyone else.

Nope. I kind of want to see this craziness as well and just watch all the "marriages" implode.

  • I doubt this can be legal. But it's still pretty disgusting.

"Let's just marry the person on the first date.  If it works out, cool.  If not, divorce is easy peasy" WTF?  Lots of people go on dates from online sites after filling out questionnaires (like they had to do to get on the show) and most of the time the first person you meet off of there is not "the one".

I found another article about in and the show's publicist insists that they are legal marriages.  Maybe throwing enough money around can get some laws relaxed.

The article also said the show will pay for the divorce if it doesn't work out.

Maybe the actual ceremony is taking place in NJ? Are the laws more relaxed there? Or maybe it's just a PPD and they have the "ceremony" for TV then make it all legal the next day.

It says they took place in a Manhattan hotel and are "binding" but I can't help but wonder if the paperwork was done later. Like maybe the filmed the ceremonies and then had a clerk waiting to issue the licenses and then a quick redo of the legally required language and some signing.

  • I'm especially ragey at this line:

Don't bother waiting for love, just lock that penis down! Get 'dem babies!

I read nothing past this line because it's my favorite come back ever.

  • Don't ask me why I watched this, but apparently that Jaimie girl has been on 2 dating shows before and she doesn't like her new husband because he's not cute enough for her.

I went to HS with her, and this was all over my FB feed yesterday. So much SMH. Once upon a time, she really was the 'girl next door' type.
  • I remember Jamie from the Bachelor (I have a friend with her last name, from the same area and I was like...uh...is that your cousin? ) When I saw previews for the show I thought it was about people who met online and were getting married without meeting in person. This is even better/worse/genius/terrible/I weep for humanity.

Thoughts that went through my head as I watched this show last night:
    • Why the fuck can't everyone get married?
    • This is gross.
    • That Jamie girl is vapid. Oh, she was on Bachelor Pad, yeah, she's gross.
    • How in the world would marriage equality ruin the sanctity of marriage, but this shit is okay?
    • Great, I bet they will PPD the shit out of this if one couple stays together...
    • How large of a pool of people did they have to actually choose from?
    • This is gross.
    • I can't wait to Knot about this....
  • Oh yea, I remember Jaime from the Bachelor and Bachelor Pad (don't judge, it's my guilty pleasure).  It looks like you can watch free episodes online, so I may have to watch a couple episodes and just see what happens.
