We Might Have a Ghost...

So we were peacefully sleeping last night, when all of a sudden at 3:30 a.m., music started blaring from FI's computer in the living room. Like six different Matchbox Twenty songs and a Britney Spears song at the same time. (If it weren't for the fact that Rob Thomas is still alive, I would definitely suspect him...haha) FI had left his computer asleep and turned his monitor off, but he did have about 20 tabs open on the internet of songs from YouTube. All he did was play Minecraft after dinner and his speakers were pretty quiet then. But somehow it was way loud at 3:30 a.m. So he got up to go turn the music off, and when he came back he told me that six different tabs had started playing at once, and Pandora. I know that computers sometimes wake themselves up to do updates and stuff, but how did those six random tabs out of twenty-something start playing?? It was so weird.

  • Does he have a mac and use safari? I stopped using Safari because it would randomly decide to reload tabs... which with youtube videos in the tabs would mean they'd start playing on reload.

If not, GHOSTIE GHOSTS! Time to break out the woowoo stuff!

What if it restarted itself for an update (Windows has them the second Tuesday of every month, but if the computer automatically does it it can take a few days)?

  • beethery, nope, he has Windows and was using Chrome.  Yes, doeydo, I figured it could just be updates, but he didn't say there were any updates going on when he went to turn the music off.

It was more than likely a scheduled update. When I got into my office this morning, all the computers had been restarted and reopened with all the programs that were running when everyone left.

Wow, I feel really stupid.  I was wondering why my computer had been restarted this morning and just assumed that the nosy office assistant had been messing around on it again after I left work last night.  I'll give her a pass....THIS time.
