Newest of the Newbs (*Newbest Newb*?)

I've been lurking here for a bit, but finally decided to actually make an account and join in the fun! I started lurking around January when my BFF asked me to be in her wedding, and I've stuck around because, quite frankly, you ladies (and gents) are super entertaining and have brightened up many a dreary law school day. I thought I would actually introduce myself because it seems like lots of newbs are popping up and I want to join in the fun. So I'll just leave this here... Screen Name: morphemes Age: 25 Significant Other's Age: 35 What You Do: I am currently a full time law student What SO Does: He works for a sustainable energy company State of Relationship: Living together happily with no current plans for engagement How Long You've Been Together: 2 years this August How You Met: We used to work together Wedding Date (if you're engaged/married): N/A Real Babies: none Fur Babies: none (but I would LOVE to get a dog, we just don't live in a pet-friendly apartment right now) Loves: Tetris, Dr. Who, reading (non-law related books), taking walks along the lake, iced coffee, and Autumn Hates: Mustard. I don't know why, but I just hate it Pet Peeves: Hobbies/Activities: Knitting, reading (although I don't have much time to read non-law related books) Favorite Thing About Your SO: He makes the best scrambled eggs! Ok, I don't know if that's my absolute favorite thing, but they really are damn good eggs! ;) Least Favorite Thing About Your SO: It takes him so long to decide what he wants for dinner. Sometimes I am halfway through making dinner by the time he decides and I just tell him he'll love whatever I make! I don't even know how early he starts thinking about it on his days to cook! Describe Your Personality: I can get a little sassy, but generally I can admit when I'm wrong and I don't take myself too seriously. Snark Level (1 [low snark] - 10 [high snark]): I'm going to say 7 I've Been On TK Since: January, but only made an account this week! How You Came to Be On TK: I joined to get some etiquette advice on hosting a bachelorette party for my friend, and have been lurking ever since How I like my potatoes: EVERY WAY! I guess if I have to pick one way I would say curly and fried. I also really like sweet potato fries! Favorite book/author: My absolute favorite book is Pride and Prejudice. I just love it. However, I'm also a super-dork and I have to list Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. If any of you are interested in fantasy novels, I cannot recommend it more! Tell Us Something Interesting About Yourself: I'm currently in law school, which isn't that interesting. Let me try again...I've lived in 4 different countries!

Re: Newest of the Newbs (*Newbest Newb*?)

  • Welcome, fellow knitter! What's your favorite project you've made?

If you had to live on one foodstuff for the rest of your life, what would it be?
  • @KeptInStitches I was hoping there would be other knitters! I live in a part of the country that gets very cold so I love hearing what people make! Last winter I made a braided infinity scarf, I think that is my favorite project to date.

Someone just asked me this same question earlier today --about eating the same thing every day-- such a tough question! I would have to say Thai food. Panang curry maybe...as long as I could get a side of crab rangoon with it! Although eating fried wontons stuffed with cream cheese every day is probably not a GREAT idea...
  • I knit too! Not very well, but hey, I still try. :) My skills basically revolve around Harry Potter scarves, but maybe one day I'll branch out.

    Also, Thai food = love.

  • Welcome! Where do you live now? Which countries have you lived in? Which year are you in law school? Do you have a favorite boob? Channing Tatum, Barack Obama, Your Boyfriend: You have to kill one, marry one, screw one. Which do you pick for each and why?
  • Welcome! I've traveled a lot, too, so I've got to ask what countries have you lived in? And what is your favorite place that you've ever been?

@eillis1228 I love thai food so much! Also, I started with HP scarves too! Sometimes it's just fun to do something with your hands while you watch TV or something. I'd start small and add ribbing or a different color in and go from there. :)

@loves2shop4shoes I live in Wisconsin now, moved up from Chicago to go to law school. I'm in my second year now, I'm working/taking classes over the summer so by the time fall comes around I'll be halfway through 2L year-- I'm really happy about that!

Weirdly my left boob is my favorite! I always think it's more nicely shaped than the right (not that I spend too much time thinking about this...). It's weird because I've heard that the boob on the side that is your dominant side is generally bigger because you use your muscles more on that side (whatever hand your write with is generally your dominant side).

OK I would DEFINITELY screw Channing Tatum. I have Magic Mike on blu ray, yes, the extended version ;) . I'd have to kill Obama, 1) I could never kill my bf and 2) even though I voted for him, I don't know if I could ever actually like a politician. I guess that leaves marrying my boyfriend! Which I hope to do one day anyway :)

ETA: paragraphs--I swear I had them!

@ethereal219 I've lived in Italy, Turkey, Ireland, and the USA. I've been lucky enough to have traveled all over the world, but my favorite place was a tiny island in Ireland, Inishmore, part of the Aran Islands. It's the only place I've ever traveled that I immediately felt like I could be happy there forever.

Where have you traveled? Do you have a favorite place?

ETA: my avatar is a picture of a sign I took while I was on the island. I wasn't exactly sure what it was warning me of (beware of fat sheep?), but I thought it was adorable!

That sounds amazing! I lived in London for a year, and never made it out to Ireland... I kept thinking that I could just go there on a weekend sometime and then it never happened. I've lived in the US and London, and I studied for a summer in Rwanda. I've been to a lot of different places, though. My favorites were Paris and Rwanda. But I also loved Prague and the Christmas markets in Copenhagen.
  • Hi and welcome!

    Anniversary

  • Hello and welcome!  I also did/am doing the law thing (as well as several others here).  And I wish I could live in 4 other countries!  Though I haven't done a lot (I guess that's very subjective), travel and trying to travel is pretty much what my life revolves around.  How did you come to move around so much and so far?

Also I lived in Chicago for a couple brief periods, and we have the same favorite boob.  Are you left handed?

  • @Carliealissa Hi! Thanks for the welcome! I imagine there are a few other lawyers/law students around here. I guess we can commiserate on the law school experience. I am not left-handed, but I do random things with my left hand instead of my right (like eating and brushing my teeth). So I think that contributes to my left book being my fave :) I had the privilege of having parents who both loved to travel and had the means to do so and bring the kids with. So when I was about 13-14 my parents began bringing me with on their semi-annual trips around the world. I wish I had appreciated it more back then! I also just took every opportunity I could to travel, I studied abroad and went backpacking after college. Where have you traveled?
  • Very nice!  I didn't travel growing up at all, but I probably wouldn't have appreciated it either.  I've been to Poland, Mexico, just very brief stops in Belize and Honduras (cruise), and Lebanon, Israel, Palestine, Jordan, Egypt and Cyprus (all during a study abroad).  I would LOVE to go to Turkey!  I really wanted to see Syria but things were a little too iffy at the time.  Obviously it has only gotten worse.  Where was your study abroad?  That has got to be one of the best life experiences a person can have.  I did mine during law school :)

  • Wow you studied abroad during law school, @carliealissa? That sounds exciting! I studied abroad in Turkey and then stayed for a bit, it was lovely! I highly recommend visiting one day, if possible. I would LOVE to see Egypt one day. It's at the top of my list, but obviously recently it hasn't been as safe and I'm just halfway through law school so I don't have a lot of extra funds for traveling now.
  • I'm with you there!  I was all signed up for my study abroad in Egypt for summer 2011- then the revolution started in January that year and they cancelled the program!  So, I did programs in Israel and Jordan instead and just planned my own trips to Egypt while over there.  I think my experience was definitely better for everything that happened.  Got to take some really fascinating courses on the Arab Israeli conflict, Human Rights etc. and of course see and experience so much.

Halfway done with school, congrats- it will be over before you know it! :)
