Re: outdoor wedding in a state park???

  • I would call those parks and see what information they have on getting married at the park. Chances are you aren't the first person to have this idea. Also I have found with state/national parks that the website isn't that helpful but a phone call usually is.

As far as when, I would say the summer (Memorial day -Labor Day) or early fall (Sept 10-Oct 10). But than again you never know what the weather will be like in WNY. I would also have a back up plan incase it is pouring out!

  • i know we just called beaver island state park about oct 2013 and its only $75!  no entrance fees either b/c its off season
  • I looked into Letchworth. They have some information on their website that is pretty helpful. I ended up deciding against it because FI doesn't want an outdoor wedding. It would be so beautiful though. I would go for it! I think their Plan B is a tent unless you have very very  few guests and can go in the Glen Iris Inn, but I think it is worth the chance, especially if you are getting married in the falll. But maybe I am just trying to live vicariously through you...

We are having our reception at a smalller local park, becasue they have a big indoor building we can use. My other advice in working with the parks is to call the local offices, not the state parks department, becasu ethe guys who work at my local park have been WAY more flexible on things like letting us in to decorate and letting us stay late than the state people told us. They are awesome and super helpful. Good luck!

  • I am having my reception in Mendon Ponds Park.  I would definitely call to see what rules/regulations the park you're thinking about has.  I was surprised at some of them for Mendon!  Also, if you need a tent company I would look at McCarthy tents.  They are really reasonable and very nice.
  • It depends on your crowd. Letchworth wanted all cleaned up and out by 10pm I think allegany has similar rules.
