nwr. styles for long hair?

So, I've been growing my hair out, and it's now just past my shoulders. I usually wear it up because it's a pain in the ass otherwise. But, while I like wearing it in a clip, it seems kinda pointless to have long hair if I'm just constantly pulling it back.

So, knotties with long hair, what do you do to keep it out of the way? Is it easier to deal with when it's longer? Do you do styles other than pull back in low ponytail twist up in clip? What's EASY? Cause I am one lazy bitch when it comes to hair.

  • My hair is a little longer than yours.  I usually leave it down, but I like a topknot when I need to put it up.  I just make a ponytail on top of my head, twist the ponytail, then secure the bun with another ponytail holder and a few pins.

Or you can get fancy and do this braided topknot.  It's really secure and hold my slippery hair better than just doing a bun.

  • I'm no good. I keep my hair cut short because I am one lazy bitch.
  • I have long hair (halfway down my back), and I work with pigs. Not a good combo. Pigs are like small child and pull it.

I do a lot of messy buns, braids, pony tails of varying height, and sometimes when feel like looking fancy for my pigs, I'll braid some sections that lead into the pony tail/messy bun. I wear it half up for the office, or I'll straighten it and pin it back with bobby pins or a fun headband.

I'm not very talented when it comes to my hair. Plus, I'm not very motivated because there's a lot of it.

My two "styles" are down and ponytail, so I'm probably no help.  Oh, and where you take the front part and pull it back into a baby ponytail but the rest of your hair is just straight down (if that makes any sense).  And then there's the "look, I'm wearing a headband" style, if you want to get really fancy LOL.

  • My fallback is some version of a French braid - straight back, to the side, or I'll side part and French braid the parted chunk back into a ponytail kinda like so.

  • When my hair was long, I'd braid it in pigtails a lot and pin them around the back of my head like this. I also liked this easy updo. I tried to learn French braid but couldn't get it.
  • I do a lot of braids and ponytails for everyday wear. For when I go out, I usually do the Duchess Kate look or do half-up styles.

Ooooh, both of these are gorgeous!  I've done something similar to that braided updo before, when I had to do my own hair for a BT event.  If you make two small braids at the front of your head, then cross them over the top of the larger braids as shown in the video, it makes the whole thing look intricate and fancy.  Even though I swear it only takes like ten minutes.  My hair stayed put through a whole night of dancing and partying.

Mine's mid waist now (OMG!! I didn't realize it was so long, and I think Im going to chop it this summer). Anyway ponytails, or a high knot with one of those donuts inside (sock bun??). It always stays so well, which is hard as I have very thick and heavy hair. I also do a lot of braids now that I've grown out the layers. French braid, pony tail that's braided, etc. French braid is my go to after washing my hair but being too lazy to dry and straighten it for work ETA - I love that 2 braid knot. I'm gonna try that if I've got my spin pins with me. Can't do the second one though. I'll never fit all of my hair in there!! :)

  • French braids are awesome. Dutch braids are too, but they're a little difficult for me to do still. Ponytails are great, and can look very put together even when you don't spend a whole lot of time with them. Waterfall braids are super cute, but they're a little more effort than I usually put in my day-to-day. There's even a plait I learned that you can do with 4-12 strands that holds really well and looks super nifty (although I haven't quite mastered it on my own head yet). Fishtails can look messy in my hair, but only if it's curly - if it's straight they look really good.

I wear mine down a lot though, because I have a tattoo on my collarbone that my boss prefers I keep covered, and my hair covers it perfectly.

  • I'm pretty lazy with mine. Either I put it in a top knot, or I tease it up at the crown to make a pretty ponytail.

  • Thanks guys! I'm gonna look into these. I like how braids look, but when my hair was short I had layers, so it might take some time for some of these styles to work for me.

I also, was never able to braid my hair as a child. I was not coordinated enough.

Mine is well past my shoulders, but I don't put mine up. I like it long and loose. It's my mermaid hair, and I love it. ;)

THIS. I love how my hair looks in the pool when I'm nose deep and my hair comes floating on the surface in front of me. And it's red, so, you know, Ariel hair. BAM.

ETA: I French braid my bangs back to one side of my face. I say bangs, but they are just long layers in the front. I can't find a picture on my mobile, but try to look it up. Its a cute way to pull hair out of your face while leaving it down. I bobby-pin the braid back. (Start on one side of forehead, grab chunk of hair, start French braiding, and stop pulling hair into the braid at your temple on the other side, then regular braid the rest of it back.)

That's my FAVORITE in the pool!! And my sisters always say I have mermaid hair.

HOWEVER. Blanket of hair on my head I'm the summer makes me wanna move to Siberia. There is no blow drying these days. Idk how ya'll do it. I like to let it dry in a French braid and leave it wavy the other days til I wash it again.

I have nothing to add to this except, Go Tigers! And is it weird that I could tell that was Comerica Park before I saw you were wearing a Tigers shirt?

I've been busting out lots of side braids & sock buns, lately.

My other go-to is straightened & down with a poof.

  • I usually curl  mine with a curling wand for tighter curls, a 2" barrel curling iron for loose curls, or do a blow out for volume and straighten. My hair below my shoulders. I like curling it and brushing it out throughout the week (I only was hit once very 5 days or so) and the curls get looser as the week goes on.

  • My hair is pretty long - down past the middle of my back. Most days I keep it down. When I want to wear it up or off my face, I alternate between a ponytail, half up/half down or a low bun.
  • I've been rocking the ballerina bun this summer because it's so damn hot. But this weekend I tried a side French braid and got rave reviews, so I'll definitely be doing that again. Most days for work I will do either a French twist or this style that works well when I'm having a good curl day.
