Valentine's Day

Love it/Hate it?

I always liked it, my parents got me a card, candy, flowers, stuffed animals, etc...so I never really associated it with being single or in a relationship...and I've always liked the excuse to buy/make corny things.

Got plans?

I'll probably make a nice dinner, maybe a fun dessert - I don't care for going to restaurants on busy days like this

On my drive home, I was listening to the DJs talk about Valentine's Day, they were asking for the worst story.

Just wondering if anyone has some entertaining ones?

    Like it or hate it?
i  like it. I think its a nice time to tell everyone you love just that. Like you, my mom always got me some candy and a card. It wasn't until high school that I felt like a schmuck if I didn't have a date. In college those feelings go away because its mostly singles anyway,

I dont have a great Vday story. Last year was pretty fun, because the FI planned a big dinner in Boston. (Where we met and I used to live) We ended up going up to this super fancy restaurant and it was just like in that movie Valentines day where everyone is on top of each other and you feel like you are dining WITH the people next to you. He misunderstood the person on the phone and thought it was a prix fixe for 2 for $150...it was $150 each. I knew a $300+ dinner wasn't in the budget and knew he felt stupid. I pretneded I was sick. I think I actually told the waiter "sorry I'm pregnant and feel sick" and we took off. We went to our favorite dive restaurant and had burgers and then walked through the park. I knwo this isn't an awful story but I think it was kind of one of those like awesome moments that I was like "i'm super happy to be in this relationship"

If I had to give you an awful story, it would be the Valentines Day I lit the bread basket on fire. It was probably symbolism for the bad relationship I was in at the time. The whole place flipped out and they had to come extinguish it-- this was at Pinellis by URI in Wakefield. I disliked the guy I was with so much that I was almost hoping they'd make him pay for the damage (that makes me sound like a real bitch)... but you get what I mean...real sleezy horrible bf...it might be karma if he had to pay for a singed table.

Sorry this is long. I can't really remember any other valentines days besides those two--so they were probably pretty standard.

Hmmm....I could definitely live without V-Day. For the past 2 years we've been doing dinner on a day near V-Day...3 years ago we went to Blue Grotto on Federal Hill and had the worst experience (food and service were awful). We vowed never go to out to dinner on that day ever again!

No real relationship funnies revolving around the day...and I also used to get cute things from my parents and grandparents on the day..and I remember giving out little cards in elementary school. I miss those days!

Tomorrow, I'm baking red/white funfetti cupcakes to enjoy for a few days, and we're just doing a simple lunch at Cassarino's on the weekend. We'll both be working Monday and we're on opposite shifts so we won't really see each other.

We're closing on a house during Valentine's Day week, so we agreed that will be the ONLY thing we are giving each other for V-Day!  I was hoping to close on the 14th so we could get take out and sit on the floor & eat in our new house!

ISLAND: that sounds like, if that happens and you close on your house , that would be the most amazing Valentines day ever!! That's really cute

We're not big on Vday gifts, I don't really get or give anything big. We kind of do like a sentimental quirky gift.

I found mugs on fishs eddy they are republican democrat mugs. I'm pretty middle of the row and FI is a republican. His mug is red and it has photos of all republicans on it, and mine is blue... here's a pic.

Plus I found this quirky sign that we saw in the Sky Mall catalog the last time we flew (ya...I know) that I tracked down and bought. It says stuff like "Your the laces to my sneakers, the cheese to my macaroni"...

Sorry ...now I'm just rambling...sorry just excited that my strange weird gift for vday is going to probably beat my FI's.

We aren't into the whole Valentine's Day thing. We always believed that it shouldn't be just only on one day you show someone you love them.......

We don't really get into Valentines Day but we were planning on doing something really nice this year.  Of course life got in the way and we ended up having to replace my engagement ring a few weeks ago and we decided to upgrade.  Thank God for tax returns!  So I am just making Corey's favorite meal and homemade cheesecake for dessert.

@DansBride GET OUT!! So happy for you!  We ended up dealing with a bank owned property.  The bank was pretty fast.  We are  closing between 2/15-2/18.  Won't that be hysterical if we closed on the same day?  :)

    Thanks@ i201do!!!

I feel ya on the tax returns--- my car died last week and thanks to tax returns I actually had a downpayment for a new one without having to dig into the"wedding fund"...
