you didn't say how much each option was but it's entirely about your budget, the feel of your reception (how formal or not it is) and the atmosphere you'd like to create.

p.s. there's no such thing as a sit down buffet. either guests are served at their table or they get up to get their food.

Then I'm torn. Like the variety of buffet menu better but if you're going semi formal that's a small enough gap that I'd do plated service.

There's not much difference in price so go for what you know your guests would appreciate more.

I'd prefer a plated dinner but I enjoy the variety and portion control of a buffet. The medium between plated and buffet is called "family style" servers come by with large platters for the table and guests choose what they want from the platters. they usually do it in waves.
