Roman Catholic/ Jewish wedding

My fiance is Jewish and I am Roman catholic. We just got engaged and want to get married in my Roman Catholic Church. He wants to know if he can wear his yarmulke for our ceremony? I don't believe he can wear it in a Roman Catholic Church and on the altar but does anyone have any views or experience with this?

wouldn't your officiating priest be the one to ask?
  • Ask the priest who will marry you.

Your priest is an invaluable font of knowledge when it comes to the "cans" and "cannots" of getting married in the RCC.  A mixed marriage such as this one is not the first, and won't be the last - he'll give you the most accurate answer.

  • In general, men cannot have their heads covered in a Roman Catholic Church.  However, there are exceptions to this rule.  I would double check with your priest, but from what I've found, it looks like he probably can.  This link doesn't mention weddings, but it does talk about wearing a yarmulke in church.

I'm pretty sure the priest will allow your fi to wear his yarmulke. Please come back and let us know when you find out.
