Wedding Invitations & Paper

Professional printing services online?

Heyo.. I had the cutest shower invite designed on Etsy, and I'm looking for the best place to print it.  I've checked Zazzle and Vistaprint.. Zazzle is a little more than I wanted to spend, and Vistaprint for some reason is cutting off the border of my design, no bueno.  So, I was wondering what other printing sites are available and are recommended.  Thanks!

  • Vistaprint is not actually the size that they say they are. If you want, I would first contact the etsy designer and ask if they would be willing to change the size for vistaprint specs.
  • This isn't the cheapest option, but I really like catprint.com. The quality is really great, they have lots of paper options, and they can do any custom size you want. Vistaprint will only do certain sizes.

  • Check out the Cards and Pockets Print Shop. They were very reasonable for my wedding invitations.

  • Depending on the type of paper you want, I'm with @lolo883but add Office Depot and Staples to that. If you go in person, you can see/feel the paper plus you can usually see a proof and make sure the edges aren't getting cut off.

I'm a supervisor in the printing dept. at Staples and the biggest problem I have with a lot of Etsy designs is the lack of edge to cut. In order to get the color all the way to the edge (known as bleed), we have to trim off a little bit of the design, usually no more than 1/8" on all sides. If your designs and words are already to the edge, or really close, there's a good chance that it will be cut off or right at the edge of the paper when it's cut down. Another major issue is that paper doesn't always go through the machine 100% straight, so even though 1 looks good, there's a good chance that some of them will be cut off (and we can reprint them if necessary).

A good rule of thumb is having the important details no closer than 1/4" to 1/2" from the edge. If the size you order is 5 x 7, see if you can have the background sized at 5.25 x 7.25 and keep the important images/text 4.75 x 6.75. If you cannot get the background larger than 5 x 7, then I would have the important images/text no larger than 4.5 x 6.5 up to 4.75 x 6.75. As far as ordering through Staples (since that's what I know), it's much easier to slightly enlarge the image to get rid of all the extra background than it is to reduce the image to make sure it fits without cutting anything off or having unwanted blank paper because it's too small.

  • Thanks for the help!
