XP - Movie Premiere Wedding

My FI has decided, not only to move our wedding up (that's okay, I love him and if it makes him my husband earlier, I'm all for it) but he also came up with the idea for a movie premiere wedding yesterday.

 His thoughts include the following:

 1) Movie Poster STD's : Coming soon... Mr. and Mrs. Loveislouder

2) Ticket Invitations with a perforated edge so they can rip of the end as their RSVP and send back.

 3) Popcorn on the tables.

 4) A candy bar full of movie snacks

Is this a lame idea? A good idea? Can you think of anything else to add to his ideas? I'm working on them right now. Thanks guys!!

  • I think that this actually sounds really fun. I think the important thing is to not do a shove-it-in-your-face theme. Little details like popcorn on the table, the invites, etc would be neat.

You could have some type of video playing during cocktail hour to go with the theme.

  • We were also thinking maybe, though I'm not sure if it makes sense, that instead of table numbers, use our favourite movies as our table "numbers," Like... The name of hte movie, and underneath would be the people sitting at that table and we'd display the dvd case or a picture of dvd case or whatever.   Thoughts?

What we're really concerned with is, like some of the PP's have said, is going overboard. How do we not do that lol
  • The reason I think this is ok, is because it's just small stuff. You mentioned a save the date and then an invitation, both of which will be at the homes of the guests, not at the wedding. Then you are tying in movie theater type foods for the wedding. None of this is over the top, at least to me. Maybe I just really love the idea of snacks though. I really like the freedom to snack a little throughout the night once dinner is finished.
  • I'm assuming you guys are big movie buffs/ go to the movies a lot? Otherwise it would be pretty random. But I think it's really cute and I don't mind movies as table names. Maybe cute if you did all love movies- I might find it odd if I were at table Die Hard. I think just the items you described would be enough and anything really more than that would start becoming too overboard.

  • I like the idea and am all for popcorn on the tables.  Love me some popcorn!  The STDs and invites sound really cute too!

As for the movie titles as table numbers, I think it is a good idea in theory.  FI and I had considered something like that, until we figured out that our favorite movies were not exactly wedding appropriate.  We are big horror movie buffs, so most of the movies we thought of that we both love were horror movies.  I could not picture grandma sitting at the House of a 1000 Corpses or Piranha 3DD table.  If you don't have that problem, then I like the ideas of movies as the table numbers.
  • I like the idea of tables with love story movie names or movie star names. Again, cute without being overwhelming. :)
  • This sounds cute, just don't go OTT or it could look like a theme party. My area has a couple of historic theaters that are now rented out as wedding venues-- if you find something like that, you wouldn't even have to think about the decor because it would all be movie-fied already.

  • I actually thought about doing this myself - but FI made a face when I sketched the invitations out... although that could be because I can barely draw a stick figure, so they looked completely ridiculous. And then we thought about doing a super simple beach wedding, and that would be incongruous, haha. The idea I loved though!

I agree with PPs in that I think anything more than what you have already would cross over into a little Over. But I don't think I'd have a problem sitting at a "Die Hard" table if that movie was, like, your first date or something. I would pick y'all's favorite movies or movies that have special meaning to you though, not just "Oh, Iron Man 3, it's so great, let's do that" but "We saw Iron Man 3 on this day and it was important to us." (FI and I's first movie date was Iron Man 3, haha. So that would be one of mine. With Despicable Me, Serenity, Kick Ass and Anchorman.)

(It's probably good we chose NOT to go with this idea, haha. It would be a hot mess. To give some context to our earliest planning ideas, we also considered finding a nice bowling alley.)

  • I hardcore love this idea! We thought about doing this. Since I have a lot of companies offering up free and "for review" type products for my event we considered doing a step and repeat as the photo booth (that is the thing you see the celebrities stand in front of to get their pics taken at awards and red carpet events) with all the companies names on it plus some extra funny names on it that we made up. You should do that!

  • Oh adn I can think of like 100 more things to add to your idea so PM me if you want to chat. But if you want to keep it light and not too themey I understand and think you are spot on. I'm just a total party throwing freak. I celebrate anything and everything. I have so many ideas. But "Hollywood" is my #1 favorite theme in the whole wide world

  • We had a "themed" wedding if you would call it that.  DH and I are huge WWE fans and he wrestles himself.  Our STDs had photos of us at the Wrestlemania 29 events (when it was in NJ).  Our invites were a little more traditional, no mention of wrestling at all.  There was a grooms cake at the rehearsal dinner designed like a wrestling ring.

At the reception, the bridal party walked out to our favorite wrestlers entrance songs (they loved it).  We were introduced by his wrestling companies ring announcer and we too walked out to our favorite wrestling entrance song.  Our table numbers were still numbers, so everyone knew where they were going, but we had picture frames, so in the middle were the numbers and the two photos on the side were wrestlers, one staged photo and one action photo (best way I can describe them).  We also had a wrestling belt made for our wedding, think the WWE championship belt type of deal.

I can attach photos so you can get an idea.  It wasn't over the top, our guests loved that we made certain aspects of the wedding interesting, and apparently my family are wrestling fans because they thought the entrances were amazing LOL.

As long as you keep it simple and not in your face, I think you will be fine.

  • I had a coworker who did this. They had movie ticket style invitations with the whole popcorn / snack bar style of snacks. They also had "Our Movie" favors (dvds of the B&G growing up and wedding montage).

Oh gosh please don't do this with the companies' names.  I thought it was cute until you said you'd do it with the sponsors' names on there.

  • Bwahaha JCBride2015 I knew somebody would comment on that. Would it be even worse if I told you I'm not the first person who has done this even this year. I've had two other blogger friends get married this year and do a step and repeat with sponsors. One of my girlfriends got married and had a Muppets themed wedding and the actual Jim Henson Muppets Studio allowed her to get married there (this is a huge deal) and she made a step and repeat for them. It was SUCH an AW thing but so cute for people "like us" who live this life.
