I love these threads, so I finally get to make one!!! I am part of my hometown's "You know you're from hometown when..."  pages on facebook. Some old guy posted this

I would like to challenge 1 million people on Facebook to send me $1 this month! Email me for the Top Secret and Official Address which happens to be ADDRESS

One person sent him a dollar. Most people are posting about how they should get the money because of medical bills or college bound kids. I think they are trying to get the point across that everyone needs money right now, so STFU. 

I wonder if this guy thinks his post will go viral? My hometown has like 2,000 people in it.

    Yeah I just saw one of a LAW SCHOOL GRADUATE asking for money to move across the country for her new job. Girl, you have a job, put the rental car on your CC and and pay it back with your first paycheck.

    If she can't figure out how to get across country, I'd be happy to take that inconvenient job off her hands.

    I have three people on my personal facebook, do a Go Fund me within the last month. The one that irked and left a bad taste was for a trip to the Essence Magazine thing so she can write and blog about it. She was asking for about two grand. I resisted the urge to write on her blog, that she should be coming up with the funds out of her own pocket instead of begging on social media.

    Live fast, die young. Bad Girls do it well. Suki Zuki.

    My cousin just asked for money on Facebook. Here is why it doesn't get a side eye (and H and I are planning to start supporting him).

    -He is a missionary.
    -He wrote a two-page letter with details about what he does, things he's accomplished so far, and saying he would be more than happy to call or talk to people who want more information.
    -He only posted once.
    -He actually is doing legitimate, needed missionary work.
    -He is asking for money for his needs - housing, food, etc. Not a college education (he funded that himself!), a vacation, a trip to Essence Magazine, etc.

    If she can't figure out how to get across country, I'd be happy to take that inconvenient job off her hands.
    Inorite.  She's relatively privileged to have this education and this job.  It was a voluntary move.  Come up with the $500 instead of asking your Facebook friends, most of whom are probably going to be making less money than you once you start working.
