Found an (almost) all-inclusive venue

And I'm pretty pumped about it.' For around 100 bucks a person, everything is included except our attire, our rings and the photographer. Anyone else found an awesome deal lately?

Re: Found an (almost) all-inclusive venue

  • Awesome!  Sounds a lot like our venue, except it's slightly more money ($120) and also doesn't include flowers or music.  We looked at some beautiful places where we'd have to bring in everything, and realized the cost would add up quickly.  It was worth it to pay not to have to worry about that stuff.

We got a great deal on our photographer because he's just moving from journalism into weddings.  $1500 for unlimited all-day coverage, and an engagement shoot, in NYC is practically unheard of.  He made up for our huge splurge on music!

  • That's amazing!   I went to one venue where food and booze alone would have been 15000, and another 10 bucks PER CHAIR for chair covers.  No thank you.
  • @JCBride2015 that is a FANTASTIC deal on your photographer!

  • @JCbride2015 I have no idea, but also their choices of colours: Black, tan and beige.
  • wow that is great! I looked at two venues where just to rent out the place was $15,000 that didn't even include the food and booze.

    O.o

You guys are making me feel better about what I still consider an astronomical venue price.  What is that $15k venue, a solid gold palace?

What on earth DOES it include for $15k?! Holy crap.

My mom about crapped her pants when I mentioned our $35/pp dinner in conversation... let's just let her go ahead and assume that includes the booze. O.o

I try to make myself feel better about the $120 (plus tax/gratuity charge) by imagining how much better it would sound broken down into individual costs.  Some of that is for the location and rentals, some is for food, some for booze, some for service.  If you start breaking it up it doesn't sound so bad.

Then there are days I think about the total cost of this wedding and want to pull out my hair.  I think I'm losing it especially because bar studying is reminding me that my dream job-- so close and yet so far-- is totally contingent on me passing this shitty, shitty test.

Yuuuuuup mine is ALL ala carte. Each individual appetizer piece, every plated entree, every bottle of beer and mixed drink, every can of pop (!!!), every gallon of coffee. But, the rental fee for the venue itself is only $1,500 (ceremony and reception space, includes linens) plus $200 for valet. It comes out to what I think is a decent per person cost for how nice it'll be ($75-80ish) but to think about $3.25 per crab cake times HOW MANY... kinda makes me choke on my spit a little bit. Don't get me started on almost 4 grand in tax and tip.

OP it sounds like you got an awesome deal! Must feel great to be able to check off so many things at once with that.

  • @lolo883 Figuring it all out a la carte would make my head spin! You are a stronger woman, probably with more spreadsheets, than I am. And yes, it sounds like you're getting a lot for the final price and I'm sure it will be AWESOME.

  • @JCBride2015 it included the rental of the place and that was it ( they were in the Princeton area), there was also another venue we looked into ( The Ashford Estate) that was $22,000.  It was crazy trying to find a reasonable venue it our area.  There was another gorgeous venue that was almost $300pp.

@Peaseblossom55 Oh yes, I forgot somehow that you're also in NJ.  It's crazy here!

Don't worry, it's still staggering to me, too.  But there are lots of perks to living in the NYC area, salary being one of them.  Things cost more here, but at least in my industry (law), the salaries are pretty darn inflated too.  Everything is bigger here.  Texas, eat your heart out. ;)

Remember everything is relative - cities with higher costs of living have higher average salaries, too. So if someone were to move to a city where everything is cheaper, they'd probably take a pay cut too, and end up with the same buying power.

I owe you a Coke. I'll buy it in Detroit, where it's cheaper. ;)

  • Those venues were definitely on the higher end of the scale, but it all relative to the cost of living here.  Let's not even talk about housing.............

Not necessarily true though. When I lived in AZ the cost of living was dirt cheap. Now that I'm back in my home state of MA, my cost of living is double yet my salary for the same job is the same. All my friends in AZ in my industry are making what I make here. I have also been curious about moving different places and I've googled jobs in locations (like LA & DC) and all the job postings I found were basically the same pay scale or like 5k higher. Which is insane since the living there is double.
