  • Oooh, free $20 at Amazon????  Awesome, thanks!  I do have an AmEx but pretty much never use it.

  • They can have some amazing offers. I have saved almost $100 at Zappos!!! I also have used the savings at Barnes and Noble, PetSmart, Lowes, and Total Wine.

  • Awesome! Thanks!
  • It's not to get you to sign up for a card, it's just a benefit of card holding?

Right. They do this stuff often for various companies!

This. I just log on to my account and there is an area to view current offers. They usually have 10+ offers with various companies. You just click "load to card" and when you use your card, it will provide a statement credit within a few days, as long as you followed the Ts and Cs.

  • Thanks for the heads up. I believe you mentioned in the past that you have an SPG one? Do you like the benefits? I have the Jetblue one but was thinking of switching.
  • Awesome, thanks for letting us know!
  • @arrippa Yes- I have the SPG AmEx. I am SPG Platinum, so when I stay at one of their hotels, I get 4 points per dollar plus double points when I use my card. It adds up very quickly. Even if you don't have elite status, it's nice because the redemption rates at SPG properties are low (starting at 2,000 pts per night) with no blackout dates. You can also use points for flights, activities during your stays, or concerts! I've used points for all of this stuff over the years.

  • Well now I'm torn. My Visa credit card used to be a student card - 5% cash back at bookstores, including Amazon. This is a better deal though. Thanks for pointing it out!

  • Aw man, that offer didn't show up on ones I could select.

But a restaurant H and I eat at routinely did, so thanks for the reminder to check those!

Amex cards are great for consumers. They cost businesses more than other cards to process so I'm guessing that's where all of these perks come from. I need to get me one.

I do know that because of the cost to businesses, not everyone accepts an AmEx. But, they do also support small businesses. I think it's twice a year (maybe once) they have Small Business Saturday and offer a bunch of statement credits when shopping at small businesses who register with them.

I didn't get that offer either, but I did get one for Wine.com.  It knows me so well.
  • Almost forgot- if you fly Delta, SPG has crossover rewards, so you earn more miles/points on each end. I do not fly Delta, so I am not entirely sure how it works with them. United has a similar program with Marriott (I also have the United Club Card.)

They do this on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. They were doing $20 for $20 for a few years, I think that they changed it to $10 for $10 last year so they could accommodate more people signing up for the offer. They also run contests on their social media leading up to Small Business Saturday where you can win AmEx gift cards and other prizes. I won a $25 card last year plus the $10 statement credit, so I was able to take DH and my mom out for a really nice Italian dinner for 20 bucks out of pocket with it.
