Worried about a dress because I'm so short!

So I am about 5'0" and haven't started looking for a dress yet, but I'm concerned I will have issues because of my height. I plan to wear heels for the ceremony/pictures to decrease the height difference between myself and FH, but want to switch to flat comfortable shoes for the reception---I'm worried when I change shoes the dress will be too long and I will be tripping over it at the reception. Anyone have the same issue???

Chances are any dress you get you'll have to have hemmed/shortened due to your height. If you plan to switch between heels and flats, your dress will drag because of that height difference as well. I'd recommend trying to find a comfortable pair of heels/wedges, or get one of those cheapie foam wedges to change into to minimize height difference between shoes.

I am 5'1, and yes, you will likely have to get your dress hemmed and if you get it hemmed while wearing your heels it will drag when you switch. You can do as PP said and get a comfy pair of heels to swap into. You could also, depending on the style of the dress, get it hemmed so that your heels peek a little and then when you swap the "drag" won't be so extreme.

Or look into alternative styles of dresses such as tea length or hi-low hems. You could even have your dress hemmed into a tiny hi-low hem so that it is barely noticeably shorter in the front and longer in the back.

Also talk to the person who does the alterations for your dress. Take both shoes with you and explain what your goals are and they might have some suggestions.

You could have your seamstress easily add a front bustle that could be bustled when u change to your flat shoes.

I'm 4"10 and I'm just getting a regular dress and having it hemmed with my heels and hoping my wearing my shoes in as much as possible before the event.

My sister is 4'11" and shopped for a gown that fit her small frame. She ordered a petite to get the proportions right, then hemmed it to be long enough for her heels yet a bit shorter to accommodate the flip flops she wore for the reception. Like PP said, they were wedge/platform style so the difference wasn't all that much. Once the gown was bustled it was fine. Have fun shopping!
