Air brush Tanning

Has anyone did a air brush tanning or spray tanning? I am very pale and wanting a little bit of a glow but don't want to get sun burned or look orange. All ideas and tips will help thank you :)

Re: Air brush Tanning

  • I did a spray tan (the booth kind, not the airbrush kind) once in college and it actually came out pretty well.  However, it rubbed off on everything for the first day or so.

I now use Jergens Natural Glow on a pretty much daily basis and it gives some noticeable color without that fake-tan look.

  • Since my wedding is so far away maybe I can try out Jergens Natural Glow and see if it adds a more color tone to my skin. I always see that stuff at Target but did not want to waste money on it if it did not work you know. So glad to hear it worked on someone that used it :)

  • I actually have a funny story about spray tanning. I did the booth one once and it looked amazing. However, my boobs made it so that I had two really pale half moons on my rib cage. I think I may try to have an airbrush one for the wedding. I am doing a trial run, though because Lord knows I don't want to be orange on my wedding day!

  • Yeah I don't blame you wanting to do a trial run. That's my same thought process. I saw at my local Bridal Expo they had some Air brush Tanning companies that come to your house and can do a bridal party package etc. So was going to test it out and see if the results are what they say online.

I did a booth one before and it turned out well. I had some color since it was in the summer but it gave me more of a bronze color, I have a reddish tone even when tan. I did one last summer where they airbrush you. I tried it for a wedding I attended to see how it worked before doing it for a wedding I'd be in in the fall. The color was awesome, but my hands had residue and looked all splotchy and gross. I also got it done on a Thursday and by Saturday it started coming off a bit. I do have semi-dry skin on my face but it started to look like I was peeling due to the difference in color between my normal skin and tan - not cute. I didn't go down that road again and glad I tried it out.
  • I would definitely do a trial run. I got spray tanned by someone, not the booth kind, for a friend's wedding I was in and came out way too dark. It didn't really look bad but, I was darker than my natural complexion and I didn't like it. This time around I definitely plan on doing a trial run before my wedding just so if it's "too dark" I know and they can hopefully adjust it.

  • I have very fair skin and red hair and freckles. I would highly recommend a booth spray tan (I've never done airbrush). You really need to do a trial run to get the color right, I use "light" or "medium". If you do it a few days before your wedding, the extra spray that doesn't absorb into your skin will have washed off. I'd be cautious with self-tanners and the rub off that could occur.

Experimenting with different brands is your best bet!

UGH I did the one where someone comes to your house with a spray machine thing. It was a NIGHTMARE. First of all I didn't realize I wasn't allowed to do anything the day I had it done. She wanted me naked for 8 hours. I had to pack and get ready that night. I ended up looking SO orange and ugly. But the worst part was the smell. OMG the smell was simply enough to GAG me. If you want to see a picture let me know. It was just bad bad bad. And the smell lasted like 7 days.

  • @theexactlee I would like to see the picture. Yeah I was reading on the site of those ones you have to wear no deodorant no bra etc the whole day.

Here you go. Now keep in mind I'm basically a light skinned, not fair but light skinned girl on a normal basis. It was January. Oh and I'm the shorter girl. And this was before my nose job so shush everybody. I know it was bad.

  • I'm pretty pale and got a spray tan for my wedding.  It was just enough to give me some color without looking orange.  They say the longer you leave it on the better.  I had mine done on a Wednesday night (my wedding was on a Saturday) after work and showered the next morning.  I had great color.  And it looked fab in pictures.

  • I've done the booth spray tan before. It looked fine but it faded within a couple days, even though I followed all the guidelines to help it last longer.

Definitely give it at least one trial run before the wedding so you know what to expect. And make sure you have the right shade of makeup to match your spray-tanned skin...I learned that lesson the hard way.

  • @blabla89 Oh good looking out on the makeup aspect. Did not even think about it!

  • Oh that was the other thing. I had makeup sent to me to review and it ended up NOT MATCHING. That was a nightmare.

  • That's why they recommend doing your spray tan in the evening. I always do mine around 530 or 6. Don't shower or wear tight clothes until the morning.

  • oh good idea! I didn't think of the evening either!

I love getting spray tans for events. I go to a lady that sprays me. And I do not have to be naked for hours after. In fact, as weird as it sounds, she uses a hair dryer to dry me off. I do wear loose/dark clothes and no shoes for the rest of the evening though. (I usually go after work and shower the next morning.)

I would recommend a test run. I would also advise you to make sure to get any pedicure/manicure done before, so they don't exfoliate the tan away. And usually day three and four are the best looking tan days for me. Day one and two I feel like I have (what I call) Frodo feet. By day five it's starting to fade and looks splochy.
