Empty Frames

So I've had this idea of buying frames with a cool texture / 3-D design on them, painting the frame, taking all off the inside stuff out, and using the frames as decorations at my reception. I would also, in some, tape pictures of me and my fiance in the middle of the empty space. I'm pretty sure I've seen this on Pinterest a long time ago, but now I can't find the pictures anywhere. The only thing close I've found is putting a mini clothesline in the frame and clipping a picture to it. Has anyone done just the tape thing? Does it work well, or is it tacky?

Re: Empty Frames

  • I'm having trouble imagining how you plan to have these displayed, and how you would use the tape. Most frames won't stand on their own with the "inside stuff" removed, and having tape spanning from one edge to the other would look very messy and collect dust.

  • I don't understand why you would take the inside stuff out.  If you don't like way it looks just insert a piece of card stock in your wedding colors.

  • These sort of images? Kind of floating frames?

Something about these looks sad to me.  Like, why are there no photos of people?  The frames just look abandoned.  Like detritus after a natural disaster or something.

But I know this is trendy.  Maybe it's just me.

  • I'm using an "empty" picture frame at our wedding - it'll be propped up on an easel and will hold the escort cards

I'm not sure what the tape thing is you're referencing though.

  • Something like this. Ish. So the pictures would be taped to the wall, not like they're in the frames, but floating there.
  • I guess I don't really see the point. Would your venue even allow you to use tape on the walls?? Most don't. Why would you have some empty frames and some filled? If some would be filled, why not just put the picture in the frame the normal way?

IDK, I have seen wall groupings with filled and empty frames in homes before and liked it, but I don't really care for or see the need to decorate the walls at wedding receptions. I think it's an unnecessary expenditure.
