Bible Verses

The Bible I've had for the past 8 or so years is falling apart, so I bought a new one.  My old one had tons of passages and verses underlined & highlighted, but obviously this new one doesn't.  And I want to change that.

So, hit me up with some of your favorite (and preferably somewhat obscure) Scripture passages!

Re: Bible Verses

  • Obvious favorites:
    Jeremiah 29:11
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (my all time favorite)

    Others:
    Romans 12:2
    1 John 1:9
    Isaiah 41:10
    2 Timothy 1:7
    Isaiah 53:6
    Hebrews 4:12
    James 5:16

  • James 1:2-4 is one I've always loved...pretty much the whole book of Ephesians (we're using Eph 5 for our wedding!)...I'll ETA when I'm at home with my book in front of me!
  • Oh, don't even get me started....So much of Isaiah, a good chunk of Hosea, all of the Psalms, quite a bit of the Pauline epistles, even more of the catholic epistles (especially James and much of 1&2 Peter). Before you start, I'd research different color-coding schemes. That's helpful. ;) Congrats on your new Bible!

  • I agree with PP about the whole book of James--I think it's often passed over for more exciting passages. My all-time favorite bits are 1 Corinthians 13 (verses 1-3 rather than the popular bit) and Psalms 121 (some teacher made me memorize it when I was in sixth grade and I still remember it 15 years later).
  • Two of my favorites are Proverbs 31:10-31 and Ruth 1:16.
  • Mine are more so related to my obscure sense of humour. I always laugh when I read Numbers 22:21-30. Seriously, if my donkey started talking to me I'd freak out! I also chuckle at Joshua 13:1 because its redundant and ever so slightly mean.

  • "As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool to folly." It's a Proverb. Honest. My favorite is Micah 6:6-8.

    Jeremiah 29:11 is my favorite.

Have you picked out readings for your ceremony yet (if you are having them)?  Those will need to be highlighted for sure!

  • ooh good point, @csuave. We are Catholic and had Prov 31, Eph 5, and John 15 for our wedding Mass.
  • Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know. Remember the Lord in everything you do and He will show you the way.

I also have Isaiah 40:28-31, Hebews 11:1,  1 Thessalonians 5:14-18, Jeremiah 29:11 and much of Romans. These are just the highlights from my bible app.
