Cake Tasting Reviews

Today we had 4 different cake tasting.  It was a successful day and we are down to two final bakers.  Every one of the cakes we tasted was good.  We were looking for a fairly simple design, great tasting white or marble cake and chocolate mouse filling.   Here is what we found:

PJ Murphy's: Great tasting white cake.  Very flavorful and light.  The chocolate mouse was more sugary than chocolate.  Frosting was good.  Slightly more sugary than others.
Roseville Bakery: Moist white and marble cake with a good flavor.  The chocolate mouse here was the best.  Great chocolate flavor and very light.  The buttercream frosting was also light and did not overpower the cake.
Key's Cafe: All of the cakes we tasted were really moist and flavorful.  We liked the cake here the best.  They did not have a chocolate mouse filling.  But they had us try a slice of their french silk pie.  Yummy.  The baker is going to work on a lighter mouse take on this and we will taste it next weekend.
Queen of Cakes: Really good flavor varieties here.  If you want a specialty cake I would definitely suggest looking here.  Looking strictly at the same cake as the others, we found the white cake to be comparable to the other bakery's.  We did not find it as moist as others but the flavor was good.  The chocolate mouse we tasted was also sightly more sugary than what we like.  FI loved the Oreo cake and Red Velvet with Bailey's mouse.   But after talking, we decided to stick with our original cake plan.

So we are between Roseville Bakery and Key's Cafe.  We will wait until we taste the mouse at Key's next weekend and make a final decision.  I have to say each of the vendors was great to meet and work with.  If you are looking for a different combination of flavors, fillings, frosting I would check each one out myself and compare.  It really comes down to what you like.  As far as price, Key's was cheapest, Roseville and PJ Murphy's were almost the same and Queen of Cakes was the most expensive.  But, all came within our budget so we went off what fit our pallets the best.

It's exciting to know that we will have a cake next weekend.
