Average DJ Cost

Hey everyone!
I was wondering if you all had any idea of how much a decent DJ would cost for about 5-6 hrs.  I got a quote for about $1400-1900.... I thought that was incredibly overpriced. Am I wrong?

    I don't know about your average DJ, but To The Rescue Entertainment quoted me just over $600 for 5.5 hours.

    That's a ridiculous price. You can meet a DJ at your local sports bar and get his business card. I know a guy who DJ's at JR Crickets in Atlanta, and for 4 hours he only charges $150.00.

    My DJ (Black Tie Events) is doing preceremony (while guests are arriving), ceremony, and reception for $795. My ceremony starts at 4 and ends at 10.

    My first few quotes I got were for $1000-2000 and I was freaking out.

    I got a few more for the $500-750 range (mine is just the reception part- so about 4 hours).

    My wedding is about 2 hours east of town, and my DJ is charging $585. Our reception is 6-10 (we will have an iPod playing during the cocktail hour and the main room will be closed off while DJ sets up). It also includes some lighting features.

    To The Rescue Entertainment did mine for $600, and I HIGHLY recommend them.  They were not only our DJs, but they stepped in as our wedding coordinator (almost) when the one we hired was MIA and completely worthless.

    They ended our perfect evening with a burned CD of our special requested songs :)

    Thank you guys so much! I will definetely look everyone's recommendations up. I'm a bit more at ease now! :-) There is one thing that may throw in a curve ball as my wedding is a latin-american wedding, so I would need someone that can cater to both tastes.Laughing
