Dry reception

My FI recently got out of alcohol rehab.  He and I have decided that in his best interest, a dry reception would be the way to go.  We're having a small reception (60 people or less), most of who are aware of his recovery and have been more than supportive of not having alcohol there.  Do I still need to address it in the reception info (not the reason why it's dry, just the fact that it will be alcohol free).  If so, how should it be worded?  Thank you.

Re: Dry reception

  • There is no need to address it. You are never required to serve people alcohol. Since most of the people are aware of your FI's recovery they won't be surprised at all. If there are some people who would have issues with it telling them in advance opens up the possibility that they will try to bring in their own.

  • No, there is no reason to address or inform about it.

  • No reason to inform anyone. Properly hosting your guests does not have to include alcohol and if the majority of your guests are aware that your FI is recently sober then I imagine they'll be supportive and understanding of a dry reception.
  • No need to inform anyone. If you're worried about people sneaking it, maybe a brunch/lunch wedding would better suit you/
  • You don't bring it up, just the same way you don't tell them you're having green jello.
  • Just as you aren't obligated to serve alcohol, you aren't obligated to tell anyone ahead of time that you're having a dry reception. The few guests who aren't aware of FI's recovery may be surprised, but if they are polite, they will just figure you have your reasons and will let it go.

  • No need to address it.  Dry receptions are perfectly valid.  No one is entitled to expect alcohol at a wedding, and if any of your guests are offended that it's not being served, let alone leave because of it, they are being rude to you.
