NWR: Framing at Hobby Lobby

Does anyone know what they charge?  I'm sure it depends on the type of frame and matting.  I can call after work, but I was wondering if anyone has used them before.

    Not sure about prices, but definitely don't pay full price - they put framing on half off every other week or so, so watch for that!  You can sign up for weekly emails that tell you the specials for the coming week, and they include coupons in the email as well.

    I've had a couple of things framed there and a couple at Michael's.  Like PP said, they normally always have coupons for 50%, 55% or 60% off.  The one at Michael's the week after Thanksgiving was probably the best that I saw for 60% off and a bonus 10% off.  Even with 50% it can still be pricey.  I've paid between $70 and $200+ based on the size of the things I was framing, and the number of mats (most of mine had 2 mats).

    I have had the same experience.

    An alternate solution that might work for you depending upon what you are framing: For our guestbook tree I bought a nice, huge pre-matted frame when Michael's ran their frames 50% off and then pulled out the existing mat. I took it back to Michael's framing and had them make me a custom mat which only cost me $14. I think the total for the frame and custom mat was like $64. Michael's quoted me $250 for this same framing job with the 50% off coupon.

    One of my coworkers had one of her attorney's certificate framed for Christmas.  She said she went to Hobby Lobby and got some kind of do-it-yourself frame kit where you put it all together yourself.  It looks really good--I would never have guessed it had not been done professionally.  And the saleslady helped her pick it out and everything.

    I guess it would have helped to add what it is I am needing framed : )

    I ordered two antique camera advertisements for the FBIL and FSIL as part of their Christmas gift (they are photographers).  The ads are odd sizes and not anything I could purchase a frame off the shelf for unless I had the mat custom cut.  Do they custom cut mats, without having to order the frame as well?

    I think one is 8.5x4 and the other is 10.5x7.5

    They do mats only. If you can find a frame that will work they will do a custom mat for you. It does take a week or so to get it back though, so if you are wanting them by Christmas you may not be able to go this route.

    Lesa - I was just thinking that last night!  I wasn't able to get to the store in time.  Maybe I could package them nice and get them a gift card to get them framed.  That way, they could choose whatever kind they like.

    That's a good idea - you could always take the pictures up to Hobby Lobby and have them give you a price quote for a basic framing job and buy gift cards for that amount.
    I am sure they would appreciate that and might like the freedom to choose their own frames even more than getting framed photos.

    I agree.  Now that I think more about it, I don't think I would want someone spending so much money on frames I didn't like.  Especially if it was for my office.  Thanks for the tip!

    I go to Hobby Lobby too to frame certain things.  I usually wait for the openback frames to go to 50% off.  Then I select a mat from the mats they have readily available and they can cut it down to size for you... It's about $1 a cut I think so the mat was less than $10.  Then I just have them put it all together and they don't charge for assembly.  I usually do this for things where I don't need glass (like paintings).  If you need glass, I would buy a regular large frame and do teh same thing.  It will be custom look (with the brown paper on back and hanging mounts), without the price tag.
