Dont have a registry, but was asked if we had one.

So, we dont have a wedding registry as we live in a tiny home at the moment, and plan to purchase a home within the next year.

Wedding is on Sunday. I just got a message from FIs friend asking if we had a registry.

I havent asnwered yet, but I would like to politely say

"we dont have a registry as were currently in a small house and plan to purchase one soon so show me the money"

Help!

Well as you've already figured out, there's no polite way to straight up ask for money.

"We haven't registered anywhere as we really have no space in our home for anything else until we've saved up enough to purchase a larger home. Thank you so much for asking though! Can't wait to see you on Sunday!"

  • Lol. It's fine not to have a registry. But, if someone asks directly, you can feel free to say "Actually, we don't have a registry and we are saving up for a downpayment on a new home. Thank you for thinking of us and I can't wait to see you this weekend!"

I used your response word for word. lol

Yeah, asking for money is rude, but I was more nervous because they are from another country and I want to be sweet as pie!
  • You're most welcome lol don't stress about it, as long as you don't directly ask for money, most people know that 1. a couple without a registry is focusing on saving up rather than material items, and 2. money is always a great gift no matter what the occassion
