Newbie/ Need Motivation

Hi everybody! My name is Larissa and I'm new to the boards! My wedding is September 29,2012 and I want to lose 40lbs-50lbs by then! I do not like any type of exercise/sports but I know I need to do it to lose weight! Any tips to motivate me? I started dieting but this holiday season is killing me!!!

Re: Newbie/ Need Motivation

  • A lot of it really is going to require some self-discipline.

It's okay to treat yourself in moderation, but focus on things that are good for you- and I'm eating in such a way, that I'm never feeling hungry or starving so I find I have less cravings to snack on something bad.

When it comes to losing weight/slimming down/toning up, most of it is about nutrition. Pay attention to what you eat, and keep a food journal if you need to. Then try out some new workouts to see if you can find something you do like that fits in with your schedule to help you out with it overall.
  • Hey Larissa,

The person who posted above me is definitely right regarding discipline.  In addition here's a good workout that I use:

I hate running, but this workout makes the time doing so go by quickly and it really improves your ability to run farther.

Also, if you have an iPhone (or even if you don't there's a website too) and download the "myfitnesspal" app.  You can track your weight, exercise and food intake there.  I find it helps a lot because it makes you accountable and really makes you think about what you're eating and whether or not you can "afford" extra snacks.  If you need to snack go for something like fruit or baby carrots.

    Good luck!!
  • Do you consider walking/hiking/biking sports or exercise?  Those could be fun things you could do with your FI or even with friends.  It's exercise but you can make it fun so it's not just straightforward running or biking at the gym.  A lot of losing weight is nutrition but you also need to do some sort of "exercise" ... that's what starts boosting the metabolism!

</div><div>Also, start small. You don't want to overwhelm yourself with changing all of your eating habits at once, as well as starting to exercise 5 days a week. That's daunting! Add a few healthy things to your diet, like drinking green tea, not putting mayo on your sandwiches, eating salmon instead of steak for dinner... Also start by maybe walking 3 days a week, 20 minutes each time, and increase it by a day, or from 20 minutes to 30, eventually add some strength training... just make gradual changes, and it'll become second nature much easier than slapping on a huge responsibility all at once.</div>
