Being sick is a full time job!

Worst job ever!!

I'm at the clinic right now in between appointments. I get why they space them out so much, but I have a really long wait today. I can't really do much to kill the time since it's hot out, I'm on antibiotics that cause sun sensitivity, and of course, my immune system is as strong as a wet paper bag.

Yesterday, I spent all day fielding phone calls from doctors, people who care (yet have 10 million questions) and dealing with the home health nurse.

I think this job sucks and I would like to demand a raise!! :)

Re: Being sick is a full time job!

  • Do you have a Kindle or Nook?  I've been doing a lot of reading, and, since my eye isn't working 100% right now, I can enlarge the type font for easier reading.  Escapist fiction is good for these days.  I laughed through  The Wedding Night by Sophie Kinsella.

My radiation treatment is over, but the effects continue.  I'm being weaned off the steroid, which has given me weird dreams and sleep disturbances.  Yuck.  I'll get more news Aug. 12.

I think about you every day.  I'm glad you are out of hospital, and that your crisis has past.  Thoughts and prayers.

I think about you every day as well! I know you have been through this way longer than I have. It sucks either of us have to deal with this. I hope the side effects start going away soon. I had VERY nasty pain with this last round and am meeting with the doctor to discuss it. They can't figure out where it's coming from :(

Hopefully you'll be blessed with feeling well in a very short time and hopefully my PET at this end of this month confirms my last treatment will be on Sept 26!

  • Wishing the best for both of you, and @CMGragain I love Sophie Kinsella!

You guys are simply amazing!  I admire you both.  I pray for you Knotties daily.  I've seen the struggle and I know every little thought and prayer helps.

Fingers crossed that you both get great news soon.

I believe that you should be paid in desserts.

I love myself a good cannoli. Or cupcake. Or chocolate molten lava cake. Or creme brulee. Or tiramisu. Sigh...

Yuck!  That nasty stuff you have to swallow for the PET scan is pukey!  It took the nurses 40 minutes to put in the line for the dye, and the damned stuff was decaying by the minute!  They finally got it in my left hand and ran down the hall with me to shove me into the machine.  I have really difficult veins.  I felt sick to my stomach for the next two days, but it was good news this time.

DH is driving to Iowa to visit his Dad this week.  I'm looking forward to my vacation from his hovering.  I want to clean out closets and get the guest room ready for daughter's family's visit.

Ice cream and plantation mint tea seems to help!

Really, do this. I went to Boston one spring break in college and I ate so many cannolis. And REAL Boston cream pie! All the little health nuts I traveled with got up at 5am to run and ate quinoa the whole damn time. I stuffed my face with cannolis and felt no shame.
Seriously?  All the awesome food in Boston and they stuck to the diet?  I'm not a huge cannoli fan but there was this awesome crepe place in Brookline.

My package is shipping soon, too. I haven't forgotten either. I just like to draw out the fun ;)

Also, I cannot freaking imagine what how much of a full time job it must feel like. I think making and planning three healthy meals a day, exercising, keeping two businesses afloat, and staying sane are a massive achievement. And besides my mental health issues I'm having, I'm very healthy. I am humbled by what you are going through. And it makes me grateful for what I do have. So thank you.

Also, also, I wish I could send you alcohol. Fuck desserts.
  • @smichek That girl is a douche. A few years ago I went to Myrtle Beach with a group of partiers and I ran at 5am and ate good and I definitely did not give them shit about all the pizza and beer they had. You're allowed to do whatever the hell you want, especially on vacation!

Yes, and they food-shamed me and another girl who didn't get up at 5am to run and didn't eat like birds. One day we got sick of it so we went out for bagels and were parked at the kitchen table enjoying our bagels and schmear when they got back from their run. We went on and on about how delicious they were. The leader of the run and eat quinoa club gave us a little speech about carbs and how our bodies will thank us if we eat organic and exercise like them. I ripped her a new one about how people like her are part of why so many girls having eating disorders and that just because I don't get up at 5am to exercise doesn't make me unhealthy, and just because I'm enjoying local food on my trip won't make me fat. And just incase she forgot, we had no car on our trip and were walking several miles every day, which IS exercise.

She barely spoke to me for the rest of that trip and still hates me to this day.

    I give nonefucks.
I've been to Boston twice.  The first time we walked most of the Freedom Trail.  My legs hurt for days.  I figured I was at negative calories that day.

  • Hugs!

I always wonder how people handle it while actually sick. I helped FMIL with a lot of healthcare stuff while she was dealing with cancer and I found it to be an overwhelming amount of work. (I've been in healthcare for most of my career and speak English well, something that gives me a strong advantage over her.)

Let us know how we can help!

I walked the freedom trail too! And stopped at the John Quincy Marketplace for a hotdog and more cannolis. My legs hurt so much too...then I walked to a subway to go to Fenway Park. Got off at the wrong stop and had to walk another mile. Then found out the rest of the group was two miles away and I walked there to join them for pizza. I earned every cheesy bite of that pizza.

And now I miss Boston. We should have a TK trip to Boston and all meet each other IRL and have cannolis.
We should have a Boston GTG where we will do nothing but eat!
