So torn....what to do?

So, after changing my reception venue mentally every day for three weeks...I just don't know what to do. We are definently using Aria for the ceremony. We were originally going to use a hotel suite (either Vista or Apex) for a cake and drink reception, after dinner somewhere on the strip. We were consodering at one point Koi, Carmines, Wicked Spoon and Holsteins for the dinner portion. Now we are strongly consdering the Stardust suite as we can cut out the three venues and just have two (aria and orleans). However I am confused! Is the juxtaposition too great between Aria and Orleans? For those who have gone down the aisle....is simplification (ie two venus instead of three) something I should be strongly considering? For those who used Stardust....was the food really good and how smoky is the casino walking into where the shite is located? What is really most important to us is FUN and non traditional in feel. Want it to be night and day from any wedding our guests have previously been to in our east coast town. We are hosting about 40 people. Thanks for any feedback or even commiseration. Then we can chat about my dress dilemma....haha!

  • Please excuse my misspellings. So embarassed. Tiny iPad buttons....

  • 3 venues is a lot, too me but you know your guest. I don't know the distance , love to hear what the locals may have to input.
  • Thats what we're thinking too.....thats why we are considering the Stardust. Plus we want to leave them some time to enjoy Vegas on their own.

  • I agree ^^^ I definitely think 2 venues would be ideal, also you would need to worry about transportation getting to and from the venues. I think anything in Vegas would be pretty different compared to typical wedding! Good luck! :)

  • I may be in the minority here but I like your idea of the ceremony at Aria, a dinner reception then an in suite. My only suggestion would be picking the restaurant IN the hotel that you are booking your suite in. IE - Ceremony at Aria, Dinner at Hussongs Cantina at MB, then after party/ dessert in suite at the Vista Suite.

The pics of the stardust suite look AWESOME though and that is such a good deal for basically getting the suite for free. My only concern is would you feel compelled to provide transport for guests from the Orleans back to their hotels on the strip or would you just let them work it out?

There is a free shuttle from the Orleans to the Strip, if that makes it any easier. It's not too smoky at all - they have pretty good ventilation. But it is an older casino and not fancy by any stretch of the imagination. If you're looking for dinner near there, McMullan's Irish Pub (http://www.mcmullansirishpub.com/menu.shtml) is right across the street and does amazing Irish Nachos, Shepherd's Pie, and meat pies. <dreaming about Irish Stew>
  • Missmo, we'd definently have to provide transport to the Orleans but we'd leave it up to them to find they're way back. There is a shuttle, as mentioned by cirena, which is awesome but also short cab ride. I guess I just want to get the most bang for my buck with minimal decor and hassle needed. We'd also have to hire a separate in suite bartender in vista so then moooore vendors. No DOC either.
I guess I am concerned my guests might be bored if they're only in the stardust All night. Does it have enough wow factor to be a stand along spot?

  • @rosebubbly the distance from Aria to Orleans isn't terrible, but that's a lot of shuttling around for guests - I would definitely pick 2 venues over 3, but as a PP has said, why not do the ceremony at Aria, dinner somewhere on property (even within City Center, Cosmo, etc. - Holstein's is GREAT!!), then move to the suite?? Unless I'm wrong and your suite ISN'T at Aria, that might change things. This way your guests aren't spending time going between locations, and as you said, would have some time to do Vegas on their own. Aria/City Center is a great location - in the middle of everything - so guests would be able to branch out with ease. Hope that was somewhat helpful! lol

missmo14 said. When I did my wedding, I was obsessed with having "the best" of everything as far as venues. I wanted a Springs Preserve wedding, dinner at an affordable fun restaurant (Border Grill) and then an after party in a suite. For a long time I was really hung up on Aria, which was brand new at the time, but in the end I was SO HAPPY we went with a Media Suite at Mandalay Bay because:

    1: It was right upstairs
2: We had a big screw up earlier in the day (my husband forgot his suit pants) and we were behind the rest of the day. By the time dinner was over I seriously just wanted to relax and have fun with everyone instead of running around the gd city
3: In the end I didn't care we didn't get the newest greatest suites, and neither did my guests. They were still wowed, and so were we

If you are going to do three venues, and I fully support this, do what everyone else is suggesting and keep your venues tight and close.

But, I think the pairing of  an Aria ceremony and Stardust would be amazing. The Stardust suite is really awesome and the price is great for what you get.

Hahaha, you're so sweet. I probably sound like a broken record by now, then. Time to have a new wedding or vow renewal to get some new stories ;)

  • I just spoke with Pamela at Star Dust to confirm about transportation, and was informed the shuttle was free for guests staying at the The Orleans (which myself and my guest are not); therefore, would need to provide transporation or have the guest take a cab
  • I think Stardust suite looks awesome; and simplifying down to two venues makes everything easier.  As a bonus, Orleans is better for guests who may just be casual gamblers because you can find lower limit tables there than on the strip.

  • Maybe check out the sky suites at Aria?  We are doing drinks and cake in the 1 bedroom panoramic suite.

If you're providing transportation, I would think that transport costs will kill most of your savings at the added expense of additional stress.

I looked into the vista and apex as well, but ended up in the aria 1 br ph skysuite.  IIRC it's a little more than the vista but less than the apex (post wedding discount).
  • We pulled the trigger last week and canceled Wolfgang and are now having our reception at stardust. We're hiring the ddb to get everyone over there from Aria. We figured we'd let people get back on their own time using cabs or whatever.
I'm wondering if we need the block of rooms at Orleans. Surprisingly their not any cheaper than aria or planet hollywood where we already have blocks. Thoughts?

  • How long are your guests staying. If it's a short time the three venues may heighten the experience with it being a different vibe at each and a totally separate experience all combined to your wedding. Traveling May seem time consuming but it's vegas and there's so much to look at - getting there isn't going to be very hard either.
  • We're officially over the three venue thing now and just have two. Aria chapel and stardust suite. :-)

  • I am so excited for you!!^^
  • I'm starting to get excited too! Less than 4 months away now! And I'm excited because my stepdad wasn't going to be able to make it and now he can!
