Long story short, FI stood on the ceramic top stove the other day...and shattered the top.  Awesome.

IF YOU WEIGH MORE THAN A THANKSGIVING TURKEY DO NOT STAND!

Anyway, we had a big argument about it last night because he wanted to just go and get a cheap crappy stove to replace it because 'all stoves are the same - they just heat shit up'.  Now, I was by no means saying we had to go buy a professional series top of the line stove but a half decent $300-$400 used stove would suffice.

My rebuttal was that I don't tell him what tools to buy because he's the one who uses them, my opinion doesn't really matter but that he needs to take my opinion into consideration when it comes to something I use every day.  Then he went and stormed off in a huff, grabbing his keys to go for a drive to cool off.  He didn't realize that my car was in front of his so his dramatic entrance resulted in him sheepishly sulking back in the door.  It was kind of cute.

Anyway, so today we figured we'd go out an look to see if we could find anything decent on clearance...um, needless to say, I've come home skipping :)
He ended up falling in love with a convection oven with an induction top.  It's so amazingly energy efficient, and SEXY! It's one sexy mother - f**king stove!

SQUEEEEEEE!!!!!
I have to think of something to do for him for going along with this.
I'm thinking cake!

Now just to learn to cook on the damn thing and I'll be golden!

  • Yay! I would totally swoon over that.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Those are awesome.  I wish I had one

  • I never knew stove envy was a thing, until now! Beautiful! you can now make all the cakes!

  • only problem is because it's an induction top I have to get all new cookware (which comes as a bonus, just have to wait for it) since it's all magnetic.

    Damn.

Oooh fancy! Appliance envy over here too!
  • Sounds awesome:)  And I'm a teeny bit jealous.   My stove, in our rented apartment is a poster child of why a bad stove is an awful thing.  I can't use the bottom rack without burning everything and it leaks heat like crazy.  The first time I used it, I lost half a batch of cookies:(

Just an anecdote for you if anyone ever says a good stove isn't worth it...

    Happy cooking!

That is my dream. I told FI that one of my biggest requirements in our new house is double wall ovens.

I feel it would come in especially handy when doing deployment care packages.

Omgoodness, I had no idea this existed!  New life goal found.  I normally do around 60 dozen cookies for Christmas, that would be such a huge help.
  • Can't wait for updates on this thread!  I've actually lived in places with the kinds of terrible stoves @scrunchythief is talking about.  Not fun!  I've also lived in a house that had a double oven, although the second one was half size (the family who did the kitchen were Kosher, so two ovens, two sinks, and two dishwashers).  Very useful!  Particularly when trying to cook for a lot of people.

FI and I are considering a convection stove if we can't get gas in our building (haven't bought an apartment yet, but hopefully we're close to it - FI just started a new job, and I want to make sure he likes it before we get too used to having that kind of salary to finance a mortgage).  Please, keep us all updated!

Does anybody else want to know why he was standing on top of the stove?

And I am totally jealous of the stove.  We have one of those with the spiral things.  Such a pain to clean.

LOL, he decided he needed to clean the top of the cabinets.  He thought the stove top would hold him...

So, in the end I got clean cupboards and a new stove! SCORE!
  • My friend's ass went through a cooktop...but she was drunk.

That's awesome!! And here I was all impressed with my brand new bottom of the barrel $400 stove that doesn't even have self cleaning.......when you live in a 1950's house with a 1950's oven that shit the bed a year and a half ago and you've only been cooking with a crockpot and a grill, then yea a $400 stove seems like heaven! hahahah

Yep! i told FI whenever we build a house, that is a requirement.

  • wow so jealous of that oven, ours is really old and awful looking, I can't wait until it breaks down to get a new one!

    Anniversary

  • Very pretty.

We have a stove with two ovens.  One is narrow (like the size of the storage drawer) and the other is full size.  They are both full ovens not just a warming space.  It's awesome when we're cooking for a crowd.

  • So much appliance envy over here!
  • That's one badass major kitchen appliance right there!

  • I am so jealous of that oven! I wonder how much convincing it would take to get FI to stand on top of ours and then when he breaks it how much convincing it would take to get one of those babies!

  • I have serious appliance envy now. Awesome!
  • I was just reading the manual...it can melt chocolate - DIRECTLY
And even has a sabbath function? :)

I think I just had an appliance-gasm.  FI says we need a new fridge now because the other one is terrible.  LOL.

Nice, maybe you'll end up with a whole new kitchen out of this.

Funny story about the bolded - my mom purchased a new stove for her house a few years ago and it randomly stopped working one weekend. She couldn't figure out why and was pissed because, new stove. So she calls for a repair. Turns out, her stove has that sabbath function as well and the stove automatically shut itself off since the function was turned on. She had no idea when she bought it and got a good laugh out of it when she realized nothing was broken.
