Is it okay to follow-up with people via email, text or FB message rather than call?

I need to follow-up with the people I invited to my wedding who have not yet responded (we've reached our "respond by" date and one of our vendors requires a headcount in two days). I'm just curious if it's considered poor etiquette to follow-up through email, text or FB message (I have some friends and cousins where FB message is our primary source of contact) rather than calling? I'm not much of a phone person, and I also feel like these other methods give people the chance to reply at their convenience (rather than put them on the spot if they happen to answer). Thanks so much!

    I think once the date is passed, you're safe using the primary way your normally contact that person.

    Call.  You have two days.  Calling does not put them on the spot because they've had the invitation for anywhere from 6-10 weeks now, they had a deadline, and they ignored it or forgot about it.  Putting them on the spot would be calling them 10 weeks ago in lieu of a written invitation and making them decide right then and there if they were going to attend.  Do you really want to be constantly checking your facebook, email, twitter, texts to see if they responded right up until the deadline.  Call.

    I did most of my follow ups via Facebook/or e-mail because that was the contact information I had for people. I went to one family's house in person. They lived on the same block as me and all of our contact was in person, with the exception of me looking at their mailbox to get their house number to mail the invite.

    Contact them however you normally communicate with them.

    Normally I'd be inclined to suggest using whichever means of communication you would normally use, but since you need to get a headcount to a vendor in two days, it's probably best to call. It might give you peace of mind to know sooner rather than later, anyway. Would these be long-distance calls? If so, I can totally understand not wanting to pay when they're the ones that didn't respond on time, but sometimes it's better to just bite the bullet and move on to the next thing.     I would say contact them how you feel they would respond the quickest. I have some friends who work 8-5 jobs Monday through Friday, who I know would e-mail me back before answering their phones because they can get on their email at work but, may miss a phone call because they're in meetings all day and may forget to call me back. It may seem weird/sad to some people but, it's how it is.

    First bolded: see, this is why I think it's better to use the means you normally use of contacting them. I have friends I talk to all day at work, but I rarely answer my phone. A gchat IM or FB message is far more likely to get an immediate response than a phone call. If you leave me a voicemail, I won't listen to it for the better part of a week.

    Second bolded: long distance?? Sorry, I honestly didn't realize anyone actually still paid long distance phone charges anymore, or that the cost would ever be a decision making factor in anything! Is that really a thing? I'm being sincere.

    The free, unlimited long-distance thing only applies to cell phone plans. It's a long-cherished Canadian past time to bitch about our shitty cell phone companies.

    We have one because it came with the cable and internet.  Please don't ask me the phone number.
