OMHs - Anniversary question

Happy Saturday ladies!  I have a question about your first wedding anniversary.  Did any of you do the traditional gift of paper or did you say screw it and get whatever you want?  I kind of want to do something traditional but I also found one of those "established in" signs with our last name on Etsy that I LOVE but it's wood.  My alternate is a custom poster with the state of Texas on it since that is where we are now.  Thoughts, opinions, random outbursts?

Re: OMHs - Anniversary question

  • I'm not sure if we will go traditional or not but I think I would discuss it with hubs first lol. If he's going traditional, I will too?

As for your gifts, they are super cute but they aren't something H would like - if I were getting him paper, for instance, it would be a ticket to a baseball/football game or a plane ticket.

It should be noted we have not gone on our honeymoon yet so our paper may very well be plane tickets to our honeymoon lol. Boring :)
I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton
  • I would do a gift of whatever you think he will like the most.  Your "paper" gift can always be a card too.

  • We haven't gone traditional with any anniversaries so far.  I don't even know what 4th anniversary is...oops :)
  • I would like to go traditional and I told H that but I feel like he doesn't know what I meant by that lol. I'll probably get him sporting tickets for something. I'll probably have to ask him again what he wants to do because he might also be doing a combo anniversary and bday gift for me.
  • We went traditional. For our 1st anniversary, I framed posters of DHs and hung them on the wall. He had an origami rose bouquet made in our wedding colors. I cannot remember what we did for our 2nd (it was a stressful time).

    Still here and still fabulous!

  • I'm not married, just wanted to chime in that I like the idea of the "traditional" gift themes. I also think the etsy poster is really cute, if it's something your H would like--go for it!
  • Thanks everyone for your input! Sorry to have posted and run but H's grandfather ended up passing away this weekend so we've been helping his uncle get everything together :( I think H would actually like the state poster thing, he gets sentimental about things like that, especially since moving out of CA was a BIG deal for him and TX is our new home together.

  • I was going to do a paper gift but I figured H would have no clue why since he usually doesn't know about those kinds of things. I ended up getting him something else techy he wanted and HE ended up getting me some books I wanted because he heard about the paper tradition. :) I'll be prepared in 7 months for our 2nd anniversary.
  • @minskat30 what a lovely surprise when they do things like that!

  • we did not go with traditional gifts.  sometimes I kind of wish we had, but H had no idea at the time!  this past year we didn't even do gifts, just took a short trip down to Dallas for a long weekend.

    happy anniversary @loves2shop4shoes !!

  • H and I are getting ready to celebrate our 1st anniversary. We haven't honeymooned yet because I'm in grad school and we decided to wait until next year when I'm done. We're going to beach for a long weekend, having romantic dinners, and taking a ride in a hot air balloon if the weather cooperates. I'd rather do all these fun things instead of spending money on "gifts", but since we're still somewhat traditional our gifts to each other will be love letters.

    2nd Anniversary - Mexico
    3rd Anniversary - Santa Barbara

    Obviously we're doing it wrong.

We're doing a couple's massage and dinner at our favorite restaurant, so not traditional. Unless you count the bill as paper. :)
  • Thanks ladies!

@leia1979 I'd rather be doing it your way because I LOVE travelling but we have a huge down payment to bring to the table in just about 3 months so booo no vacation.

yesterday he was talking about wanting to go to a big beer festival here they just started so I am going to get him tickets for that!
