Hair suggestions?

Hi everyone! I'm a bridesmaid in a friend's wedding in September, and she recently let us know that we are free to do whatever we want with our hair/makeup. Up or down, straight or curly, hairstyle doesn't matter. She only said that if we wanted to go with her to the salon the day of the wedding, we could all get our hair done together. Unfortunately, hair starts at 90 and only gets more expensive the longer it is, and I have some decent length to my hair, so I'm thinking I may avoid that option. I'm hair inept, and since my hair is usually just down and straight I was trying to avoid that for the wedding. Do you have any hair suggestions? Would you suggest maybe trying a different salon (that would be cheaper) or just doing something myself? I have quite a bit of time before the wedding, but with buying the dress and doing alterations and whatnot this week, I figured it might be a good idea to at least get some sort of rough idea of everything else that needs to be done.

Re: Hair suggestions?

  • You could do some lose curls. If you practice a bit before the wedding you should be able to pull it off by yourself. Youtube is awesome for hair tutorials.

Or if you have a friend who is good at doing hair you could ask them to help you out.

  • I would practice a style like what @bethsmiles suggested. If it doesn't work out, I'd make an appointment at a salon to get it done just so it's one less thing to worry about on the day of your friend's wedding.

    Good luck!!!

  • I'm pretty lazy - so I'd probably just call around to different salons to price it out.  I know I've seen Ultra have $50 formal hair styling (doesn't include washing), I'm not sure how good of a job they do or what you'd be willing to pay or if there's an Ultra close to you.

  • I agree with @Bethsmiles - start practicing now by watching YouTube tutorials. I also watched a ton of videos on maskcara.com to learn how to do natural-looking loose curls. Personally, I probably wouldn't spend money to get my hair done professionally for someone else's wedding unless I definitely wanted an updo.

  • I am so bad with hair too. I watch the youtube videos in order to get my hair looking fancy.

    Here is my go-to look:

  • Ditto PPs, start on YouTube and practice a style that you like a few times. It's really easy to do loose curls/waves with a straightener; might take a few tries to get the hang of it but once you do it's really easy and pretty. Good luck!

  • Thanks everybody! I completely forgot about Youtube tutorials! I was looking at things on Pinterest, but realized I need videos so I can actually see it being done! I also have a sorority sister who is good with hair who said she might be able to help me day of with hair.

@TwoDimes How is the curling wand? I'm intrigued and slightly intimidated by them at the same time.
  • I'm pretty terrible at hair too, so I usually fork over the money to get it done for weddings even if it's not required. I can curl it awesome but it just doesn't stay. I don't know what amazing products the stylists use, but mine never work and it falls flat in an hour. But I like @500days suggestion of something like a bun because then it can't really flatten or get messed up. So I'd find a cheaper salon as option #1, then do my own bun as option #2 if I couldn't find a cheaper salon.
