Wedding Invitations & Paper

When to start to panic... where are my invitations???

Hi everyone! I'm trying to remain calm(ish) but I'm starting to worry about my invitations getting lost in the mail. I sent them out last Thursday, so over a week ago. I heard from a few people the very next day that they arrived. One invite even made it to Hawaii by Saturday. But even now several people (including my parents and two bridesmaids) still haven't received them. They live in the same city as others who did get them (days ago). And these are just the people that knew they were sent. Who knows how many other guests haven't recieved anything. I know my invites had enough postage, but I'm worried that the calligraphy and the dark envelope is somehow messing up the post office. What happens if the machine (is there a machine?) can't read them? Where are my invitations??? When should I start actually freaking out?

  • I wouldn't start freaking out until you start receiving them back, return to sender undeliverable. Just keep your fingers crossed and hope it is taking them a few extra days bc they have to read them and sort by hand.

  • You don't happen to live near Cincinnati, do you?  They did just catch a postal worker dumping mail in a trash dumpster.

On the bright side, they did recover that mail and it will make it to proper recipients.  On the downside, I doubt its an isolated incident.

I wouldn't worry too much yet. USPS can be horrible sometimes and take forever. I just sent a package to my parents that was supposed to be there on Saturday... they just received it yesterday. And a few months ago I sent package to my sister (her wedding invites, which I made for her).  I even ordered tracking on it that time.  It took nearly a week longer than it should have, and even then the tracking never showed it being delivered. So, I'd give it a while longer before you worry, maybe up to a week more. And hopefully most/all of your guests receive them by then.

  • Wow! All brides near Cincinnati... time to freak out! That is totally crazy! So, actually I'm a huge freaking idiot. Turns out the BMs got their invitations yesterday. But my parents still didn't get theirs in today's mail. Then my mom had the wherewithall (she's handling the RSVPs) to check the spreadsheet I sent her with all our guests listed. And noticed that her and my dad aren't on it! Because they sent me all the family addresses. And obviously, didn't include themselves. And then I didn't think to add them. And then.... yeah. I'm a moron. So... mystery of the lost invitation is solved. Guess I better go invite my parents to the wedding they are paying for now.... whoops.
  • @lotsosandwiches That's so cute, sad, and funny! At least there aren't missing invitations, that you know of. I'd probably joke with my parents and tell them they've been B listed so their invitation will come as soon as you have 2 declines. :)
