Things

1. Everything has come back good on the new house.  I think we can finally feel like it's going to be ours and think about what we're going to do/buy/etc.  Now it's on to finalizing our close date.

2. DH's work trip has been pushed back a frillion times and now he's not going until the week before Labor Day.  Of course, Labor Day is our big summer holiday and we go camping at the farm.  At least I'll have a couple days off that week to get us ready.  I'll be pissed if they push it back again and it's the week we close or something ridiculous like that.

3. From the crazy neighbor files: last week I guess my crazy neighbor's crazy dog got out of her house w/o a leash and bit a lady walking by their house.  The lady was all like, "WTF?!" Crazy neighbor walks out, picks up the dog, and walks in the house w/o saying a word to the lady.  The kiddo witnessed this exchange.  I saw there was something going on, but I couldn't see because crazy neighbor's truck was in the way.

4. From the neighbor gossip file: My neighbor on the other side of me got divorced earlier this year.  She's already got another dude practically living with her.  Of course, she won't let him say he's 'moved in', even though he's there every night.  Also, they've already 'broken up' like 3 times because of his drinking.  Oh yeah and she has her two kids, that are getting front seat action to all of this fuckery.

5. My 19 year old cousin (who has struggled for years with ADHD and what not...It was quite a process to get him through HS and he's already failed out of college.  He's having issues keeping a job.) has a GF.  He asked his parents if his GF could move in because she had a shitty home life.  My aunt and uncle said no to that.  In their infinite, misguided, immature wisdom...My cousin and his GF decided to get knocked up to force his parents to help them.  It's already a mess, of course.  But someone suggested that maybe we could do an inter-family adoption and my sister and BIL (who are struggling to get pregnant) could adopt the baby.  My first thought: "This is going to turn into a Prudie letter."

Re: Things

  • 1) We leave for PA on Thursday. For as much as I love to travel, I feel a little like we've been living out of suitcases this summer - I wish I could pay someone to pack for me.

    2) DK will be leavings for another week-long business trip one week after we get back from PA. I'm hoping things go a little more smoothly this time, and am thankful that I'm not going to be trying to pack/travel this time around.

    3) My sister and I planned a Vegas trip for early October to celebrate her getting her Master's. It will be my first time visiting, so any recs are welcome. We'll be there for 5 nights, and are planning to try to see 1-2 shows, and are thinking of renting a car and driving to Zion National Park in UT for a day trip.

    3) Anything more than 3 nights in Vegas is too much, IMO, so YES to renting a car.  You'll want to get away from the madness.  I've heard amazing things about Zion NP.  We went to Red Rock Canyon, which is closer, and it was breathtakingly beautiful.   (Car rental is cheap and parking is free pretty much everywhere.
Penn & Teller have a show that I've heard is awesome.  They do a meet and greet with fans afterward.
Do at least one Cirque Du Soleil show.  I love those.
I really love the Bellagio, the Paris and of course Caeser's Palace for just hanging out, good restaurants/buffets, lightweight gambling (I'm a video poker and blackjack fan).  The Eiffel Tower is a great place to watch the Bellagio fountains.  Super touristy- but, then, so many things there are.
    There's great shopping everywhere.
My friend bungee jumped off the Stratosphere, so if you're into that kind of thing, she would highly recommend that experience.

  • I would bungee jump - I've never gone before, and I'm betting it's awesome.
We were planning to see Ka - we saw that they have tickets for our dates, but promo pricing only through September. We were going to give it a few weeks and check back to see if they have any October discounts.

We were also thinking Thunder from Down Under - seeing as how it's a girls trip, and all. Nothing set on that one.

We'll be at Harrah's, so right across from Caesar's and the Forum Shops. I'm partial to Caesar's since that's where DK and I would typically go in Atlantic City.

She's not much of a gambler, but I like slots - so we'll probably play a little. I always put aside a small amount of money to play, and when it's out, I'm done. I also keep any winnings separate, so usually will walk away with something. (an AC trip was always a win if we came away with enough to pay the tolls and dinner)

    Ka is spectacular!
  • Just visited Vegas a month ago. If you like rides, the Big Apple rollercoaster at New York New York is a lot of fun (and kind of neat because it's like riding through the Manhattan skyline).

For food, if you feel like splurging a little, Sugar Factory restaurant at the Paris has ridiculous cocktails and desserts that are seriously to die for.

Grand Canyon is also not a terrible drive from Vegas, if memory serves correctly.

If you think you'll be going up and down the strip and to other casinos a lot, the monorail is seriously underrated. I was there for a conference and got a 3 day unlimited pass for $25 (and you can do smaller passes). I was seriously grateful when I was too exhausted to walk myself home at night.

I seocnd Eiffel tower for Bellagio fountain views. You also can't beat standing right next it!
