Question Mark on RSVP??

Yesterday I got three RSVP cards from three adult cousins who are siblings.  One of the cousins wrote a name in from their plus one and the other two wrote question marks.  The other RSVP's I've received so far have been pretty clear about bringing a guest or not, so I'm not sure what to do about these question marks.  Should I give them a call when my due date comes around to ask if they are bringing someone or not?

Re: Question Mark on RSVP??

  • I would give them a call around the time the RSVPs are due and double check with them. They might give you an answer of they still don't know who but they'll find someone or you they still might not have found anyone...yet. I'd plan for the +1 from both of them but definitely see if they can give you a name later on.

  • I would call and ask because I want the name of all guests for the place cards (instead of just putting "guest"). I suppose if they say they don't know but insist they are bringing someone and you get to the point of having to write out the cards, just say "guest."

It probably means they don't yet know who they're bringing. I'd follow up with them closer to the date and try and get their date's name.

  • When the due date passes, call them and ask for the names of their dates.  Mention that you need to let your caterer know.  It will subtly tip them off that you don't want to pay for a plate for an invisible date.
