Okay. I haven't seen a topic like this on this board in a little while and I think it could be fun. Plus, my brain is fried and other opinions besides mine, fiance's, and mom/fmil's would be welcome.

I'm in the process of registering. I decided that I'd like to have most of the registering by the time I send out save the dates in about 2 months (basically, I'd like to put my wedding website link on the STD, and I'd like the wedding website to be complete and not changing much in between STD and invitations. Illogical? perhaps). I didn't think I would make a very large registry, because we have all the basics and have been doing just fine for the past 2 and a half years. Plus, small apartment. However, FMIL has said multiple times that she wants to throw me a shower... so I definitely need to register! And... presents are fun.

I have a few dilemmas. The list, I"m sure, will continue to grow.

1. staub vs. le creusset dutch oven
2. what size?? and round or oval?
I've read so many articles. My mom has a small staub, his mom has a larger le creusset. They both love them. I think we're going with the dark blue 6 qt round staub but... I'd love to hear your opinions!

3. what color kitchen aid mixer??? We decided on pistachio originally, but they just came out with a new color... aqua mist. And I like it! it's all happy and bright. Fiance still prefers pistachio. He thinks over time we'll like that it can blend in better. thoughts? image
above is pistachio. Below is aqua.

4. towels and sheets! brand recommendations? I like soft!

5. FI and I would really like a kitchen mat. My mom bought one from william sonoma for a neighbor/ her best friend, and she raves about it. I stood on it in the william sonoma store and it was, for those 5 seconds, amazing. Right now we're only planning to register at bed, bath, and beyond, which does not carry the same brand. Does anyone know of good kitchen mat brands from BBB?

6. We made a registry at Sur la Table, which is very similar to William Sonoma, but FMIL likes it better because, according to her, the people are nicer. But the link to the registry does not seem to work on our wedding website. Sur la Table has the same brand of kitchen mat as William sonoma, btw. Anyway... is it weird to register at two kitchen type places? BBB and sur la table/ william sonoma (if we can't get sur la table to work...)? This would probably be a very tiny registry made up of... well... the kitchen mat. and maybe a few other things that BBB doesn't happen to have.

7. Should we register at more places than BBB and potentially a small registry at Sur la Table/ William Sonoma? If yes, where? Macy's? Target? Crate and Barrel? Pottery Barn? Elsewhere? Anyone have any good or bad experiences with any of the aforementioned places?

8. what are some things that you are very excited to register for/ are SO glad that you registered for? anything you wish you hadn't?

9. Any other thoughts/ suggestions.

10. Feel free to thread jack with your own registering quandaries!  (but also... maybe remember to give an opinion on mine!)

Re: registering for... ??

  • Well, I can't comment on everything, but I like the aqua Kitchen Aid mixer better (then again, I might be biased with my bright red one!).

I also love soft towels, and I got these from Bed Bath and Beyond and they have stayed pretty soft after having them for a year now: Dri Soft Towels. Plus, they dry really quickly!

Ohhh this is fun! I'll answer a few questions...

    1. I love all things le creussett, so that's what I vote for!
    2. Size really depends on when you think you'll be using it. Will it only be used for large meals like dinner parties and holidays? Will you use it for regular weeknight meals? I vote oval for the shape.
    3. Ohhh this one is tough. Both are so fun! The pistachio looks so awesomely retro, but the aqua is so fun and bright. I think I'd go with the pistachio though because it's slightly more neutral than the other, so it will potentially go with any future thematic changes in the kitchen.
    4. Whatever brand Costco uses is the bee's knees. Seriously. We have some from BBB that were decent quality, and after two years they're falling apart and have gotten really thin. We bought two towels from Costco about a year and a half ago, and they're still super fluffy and absorbent. They are amazing. I think the brand is called Charisma.
    5. Sorry, can't help with that. :( I've never even used a kitchen mat before.
    6. I don't think it's weird. I've seen people register at Crate & Barrel and BBB, which are really similar in my opinion. Register wherever you want :)
    7. FI and I are sort of having this discussion now. We want to register somewhere that is easily accessible no matter where you live. We have family scattered all over the US and in both city and rural environments... I'm leaning towards Macy's or Target. Whichever one is easiest to do and potentially offers good rewards to us and has a lot of coupons/sales for the guests.
    8. I want the Kitchenaid mixer. I want it so bad. And luggage! We need new luggage. I really want luggage that's not black, red, or navy too. I travel enough to see how annoying it is that everyone on the plane has similar luggage, but the one lady with the purple luggage knows immediately which one is hers and is out of there quickly.
    9. Honeymoon registry?
    10. I would love to see where everyone else is registering and what they're registering for... since we've lived together for about 2 years now and have everything we need, we have no idea where to register and what to ask for... especially smaller stuff.

  • @eilis1228 Fiance just read through the responses, and the first thing he said was "oh! she's like us! they lived together for two years!"

a few "little things" we plan to register for:
-glass coffee mugs. They're $3 each from BBB. Every time we go to a restaurant that has them, fiance says "I want these!"
    -a nicer napkin holder
-potentially some cute salt and pepper shakers.
-a potato scrubber thingy (the tater mate)
    -a pastry cutter
-a potato masher that has a grid, rather than just the squiggle
-cake/cupcake transporter/ holder. You know...the big plastic thing that won't ruin your cake frosting!
-reusable silicone cupcake wrapper things. I'm really spacing on the names of things today!
-maybe something fun like a piggy bank or a little statue thing to put on the mantle.
  • @aurorarose41

We felt up the drisoft towels today (teehee, I'm such a child!), and they were on our list of potentials! Glad to hear that they hold up well!
  • I'd ask the Registering and Gifts board. The ladies there have a lot of great advice in brand recommendations and personal experiences with various registries. I've had a lot of help from them with choosing things like a crystal pattern.

  • We registered for the Kenneth Cole collection of towels at BBB.

We registered and got the Stainless Steel version of the kitchen aid mixer, it went best with all of our stainless steel appliances.

We registered at BBB & Sur La Table also.  Our Sur La Table registry has some more kitchen gadget type items ( avacado slicer, wisks, vegetable brush, Steamer, grill light, grilling pans) and our BBB registry had bigger items and our China set.

    1. staub vs. le creusset dutch oven Le Creusset all the way
    2. what size?? and round or oval? You can fit everything in an oval dutch over but not all the things in a round one. I'd go for the medium size.

I have a KitchenAid in pink, I love it, FI doesn't, I have a cover for it but never use it. If I had to do it over again, I would've picked out stainless steel

    4. towels and sheets! brand recommendations? I like soft! I get my towels from LL Bean I LOVE THEM.

    5. FI and I would really like a kitchen mat. My mom bought one from william sonoma for a neighbor/ her best friend, and she raves about it. Does anyone know of good kitchen mat brands from BBB? I do have a kitchen mat from BBB and I can't remember who makes it, sorry :(

    6. We made a registry at Sur la Table, which is very similar to William Sonoma, but FMIL likes it better because, according to her, the people are nicer. This would probably be a very tiny registry made up of... well... the kitchen mat. and maybe a few other things that BBB doesn't happen to have. We only registered at BBB because we have a small guest list and a varying demographic for guests

    7. Should we register at more places than BBB and potentially a small registry at Sur la Table/ William Sonoma? If yes, where? Macy's? Target? Crate and Barrel? Pottery Barn? Elsewhere? Anyone have any good or bad experiences with any of the aforementioned places? See number 6

    8. what are some things that you are very excited to register for/ are SO glad that you registered for? anything you wish you hadn't? I was excited for new pots and pans, I haven't received anything yet so there isn't anything I wish I hadn't registered for

    9. Any other thoughts/ suggestions. Good luck?
