Nevada-Las Vegas

Oh the Options!

Vegas was our original wedding idea - then it changed and changed again - and now we are both just going to go to Vegas and do it the way we wanted to in the first place.  Long story made much shorter - this is the 3rd time we have tried planning - if this doesn't stick we shall live forever engaged!!!

I have been trying to wrap my head around the smaller intimate locations, that allow our choice of photographer.  I really like the idea of The Wedding Wagon, and getting married right in front the the Las Vegas sign.  Then heading out with our chosen photographer for photos on the strip in in downtown Vegas as well.  Has anyone used them?

I already have a gorgeous dress that will travel with me from Michigan.  I will need to find a place that can steam the dress so it is ready to go.  Still debating on buying the Mr. a suit or renting a tux.  Looking to do a linen look for him, any recommendations?

Bouquet - anyone making and bringing their own?

I am going to look through the threads here, hopefully get some ideas!

Re: Oh the Options!

  • I'm using Pam at The Palette for my flowers. She has reasonable prices and is very easy to work with.
  • When I was doing fresh flowers I was going to go with Pam. Her prices were really reasonable. Now my sister is making them and will bring them with her. I still may have my centerpieces made by Pam.

I just started shopping for suits/tuxes. I have found that it is much more cost effective to buy vs. rent. I was shocked by how much they were to rent and I have found places where I can buy them for almost the same cost.

+1; I hate rentals.  They fit poorly and cost nearly $200.

  • Yeah, I think we're going to end up buying a tux too, the rentals are expensive and don't fit that well.   Plus then he'll have a tux to wear in the future.  We've joked about wearing our original wedding attire each year on our anniversary in Vegas.  That could be fun and motivate me to keep in shape so I can wear the dress again.  Is that crazy?

  • I don't think it's crazy. I think it is cute!

  • I'm considering having my dress dyed after the wedding, so maybe I'll do the same!
  • Getting married in front of the las vegas sign is not really small or intimate. There are cars driving by and there will be lots of onlookers. It's a very public place right in the middle of the road. I would suggest one of the many many wedding chapels instead. They are absolutely beautiful and much more intimate. I'm not sure about photographers. My fiance and I are not too keen on going around and posing for pics for hours so we are just getting the 1/2 hour of photography included in our wedding package at Treasure Island. As long as I have 4 or 5 great pics I will be happy. I kind of feel like the whole point of going to Vegas for your wedding is to have something affordable, light-hearted, simple and fun so we purchased a standard package and are calling it a day. No custom flower arrangements, no scheduled events other than the ceremony...Just a laid back day where we can do whatever we are in the mood for.
  • Another option is an in-suite ceremony. We are doing that and having cocktails and cake immediately following.
  • For the dress steaming a lot of brides on here use 'Fit for a Bride' and have had good reviews.  I didn't use anyone b/c I drove from AZ.  But I think they will even come to your hotel pick it up, steam it and drop it off for you.

For a small intimate wedding, you could also look at Valley of Fire.  A lot of hotels also have areas for small weddings.  Mirage volcano, Flamingo and Venetian/Palazzo gardens come to mind.

I agree with @myriah505, the sign will be busy and people waiting in line for pics.  You'll have a lot of unexpected guests!

  • we are bringing our DIY bouquets and table decorations from Australia... bit of a pain, but saved a small fortune.
  • We ended up buying a nice Tommy Hilfiger suit from Macy's, it was 20% off and he would be able to wear it as many times as he'd like.  And we are having  are reception at home where he will need to wear it again right away.  So it only made sense to buy one.  The Savvi Formalwear guys did offer a discount on renting the suit but still wasn't that great of a price.  We ended up spending $300 on the suit and it's going to be a lot better fitting also with alterations.

I found these awesome pinwheel paper flowers from a girl on Etsy, they are super cute. Still wondering how I'm going to transport them though.

Our ceremony is at Mon Bel Ami, I never really see anyone talk about it on here but it's really pretty and they have the option to add Elvis.  So of course, we added the pink Caddy pick up!

  • If you want intimate, definitely don't go with the Las Vegas sign. It is always super crowded, directly under a flight path, and in the middle of a busy highway.
  • I have been reading but have never posted. I just got married August 8th. I only had 6 people and myself and husband in attendance. We used the wedding wagon and I thought they were great. Great communication with me. Showed up on time, very comfortable, and a nice ceremony. It was not a non religious ceremony that I thought was heartfelt and sweet. The pictures turned out nice. (Not fantastic like a paid photographer but way better than your friend with a camera).

We choose to get married in front of the pipe dream wall in Symphony Park and there was no one around at all but us. It was very intimate and quite. I think it was quite because there was nothing going on at that time. The Smith Center is breathtakingly beautiful. We hired Keith Kaplan to do a 3 hour photo tour and those pictures are great.

I should note that Rev. Peck was wearing a purple polo and not a suit. As it was outside at 3pm in a park,  I was not bothered by this but thought it was worth mentioning in case this mattered to you.
