Re: Man fakes death to avoid marriage

  • They were talking about this on the radio in my area this morning. I guess I wasn't super surprised. They are very young, and this guy sounds pretty immature so I am not surprised the kid didn't act responsibly and just own up to the fact that he wanted out of the relationship.

Hopefully he's learned a lesson from this!

  • WTF
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

Sorry, when you said they were "very young", I thought maybe high school. But he is old enough to know better. I got engaged at 23 and by that time had been out on my own for five years. shit, I expect better from anyone my age. (24 now). That guy is just an idiot and an ass hole.

Agreed Pinkshorts. I hate the assumption of being young, as in 23 (which I am now), is associated with being immature. I mean , damn. I've heard of 40 year old people being more immature than 23 year olds.

Regardless, this is a ridiculous story.

  • Yeah, I'm barely older than this dude. He mostly just sounds like an idiot who will stay an idiot regardless of age.

She's a whole ocean away! It wouldn't have been that hard of a breakup, dude. Grow a pair.

He should have gone to Yemen. I hear there is a room available at 15 Yemen Rd.

ETA: I wanted to insert a picture of Chandler going to Yemen but my work has blocked all the sites. :(

Me thinks he will be one of those guys who will be a super immature 40 year old.

  • This kid is a stupid dickhead. Wow.
  • Sounds like a perfectly reasonable reaction to me.

  • ... he didn't even plan it well! or at all, lol... he should've known she would reach out to his family -_-

this reminds me of a story i heard when i was in med school.  One of the financial aid officers said a former student tried to fake his death to avoid paying back loans.  Sallie Mae found him hiding out somewhere in Europe, lol... they don't play with their money!
  • I knew a guy in undergrad who was casually dating this girl. She decided to fake her own death (got her friend to tell him she was in a car accident) rather than end what wasn't even really a relationship. It took him a couple days to find out, and he was distraught during that time.

  • Here's another question. They were going to be married but she had never met his dad? And she didn't figure out it was actually HIM on the phone?!?!?

    wtf?

Ditto.  I got married younger than that, and I would never dream of doing anything so stupid and immature.  It has nothing to do with his age.
  • And I thought MY commitment issues were bad...
  • Threw himself in front of a car? That's not even a good lie. He should have said a pots and pans robot came.
