It's Happening!!!

Guys I finally received my UK Fiancee Visa!!! My precious came this afternoon at 2h30 and I can't believe it's there after 18 business days (yes I counted, I was that stressed!). Cost a whopping $2110 which included the priority service visa, an extra $570. But YAAAAAAY it's here!!! So goodbye Canada and England here I come. I do have some mixed feelings though. I feel super sad to be leaving Montreal which had been my home for the past 9 years. Spent my whole young adult life here...But excited to finally be with FI with whom I've been in an LDR since April 2014. Saw him last in February this year. I will finally be able to help him find his wedding ring and a suit for the wedding in January. Sorry for my rambling but I'm quite excited. Already bought my ticket for September 15th, so don't have much time to pack all my stuff and cancel contracts with phone, internet etc. Eeeeeeeeeek

What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • That's awesome!!

  • Thanks! And Le Sex people. Le Sex.

    Congratulations! That's great!

Can I ask how you did it? I know a Brit who is married to an American and is stuck here because she cannot get a visa for him.

ETA: Do you think it might be easier for a Canadian to get one?

  • YAY!  So excited for you....long distance blows.

@arrippa American and Canadian visas take longer to get in general. Even the spousal ones take a year to a year and a half in general. I don't know if they have a Fiance Visa system in the US and they don't have one for Canada. But they do have a Common Law Partner Visa which can also take up to a year to obtain. The UK one was a lot faster because I paid for the Priority Service to speed up things. US and Canadian systems do not have those.

@Lowell14 Thanks, I'll try to stock up as best as I can, unfortunately there are only so many cans of maple syrup I can bring over with me! You live in London?

  • Im in Belfast :) I totally get trying to fit your entire life into 2 bags. Have you found yourself looking at items, either agonising over leaving them or wondering why you kept it so long? (that's a fun game)

I have some recipes I try to make but its not the same without the Canadian ingredient lol. Oh, some supermarkets over here have Clarkes Maple Syrup. its not true maple syrup but it will do for a craving lol. Once your packed your Hold bag, it may be a nice treat to pack a few small things. I have asked my mom to bring my Tide Pens and Robaxacet in October...:O

     STUCK!

@Lowell14 Wow, Belfast must be lovely too! I can't wait to start scampering about Europe. I'm passionate about European history (15th to early 20th, after that it gets too modern for me). Well, I'm bringing all my belongings except furniture and anything that's electric (MagicBullet, microwave, hair dryer...). So, not very sad there! But will still have to pack sensibly when it comes to maple syrup.

You have no Tide pens there?! And no Robaxacet? (btw is your back pain that bad?)

No tide pens. No Tide! :( the robaxacet is for my stepdad while he's here. He has a neck/muscle pain so it's something we know will help him. Also asked for Gravol for car, travel. I don't do well in the car anymore :(

Have a great time traveling Europe!

  • Congrats! When do you leave (I didn't read through all the responses so I don't know if you've been asked already). H and I also lived in different countries for 4 years so I know how much LDR can suck. One of my friends just moved to England to be with her new husband. They're both from Canada but he moved earlier this year for his masters and she didn't join him until after the wedding. She's constantly posting photos and updates on FB and it looks like she's having a blast exploring.

  • @ Belthil Thank you! I'm leaving on Sept 15th, so only about 3 weeks left. I started packing frantically and there's a lot of things I need to take care of before leaving. I have a feeling I'll be posting pics all over the place too! How did you mange 4 years of LDR? That's crazy!
