guest book ideas?

I know the thing right now are those tree/leaf posters, but I'm a little worried about getting a poster to and from Vegas without it getting crushed or ripped.  What are you guys doing for a smallish Vegas wedding (about 20 people or so)?

Re: guest book ideas?

  • How about a mat that goes around a picture and have everyone sign it? Then you could either use it as a mat around a wedding photo or a picture of Vegas. It would be easy to lay in the bottom of a suitcase so you wouldn't need to worry about it getting ruined. Just a thought.

  • We had a photo book printed with large borders and various pics of friends and family; everyone signed around whatever photos they wanted.

  • We did a shutterfly guest book. Everyone loved it!

  • We also used a photo book. I just put it in between some clothes in my suitcase.
  • I ordered a poster online and it came in a nice cardboard tube so that it wouldn't get crushed or ripped. It's small enough to fit in a suit case. I don't understand how you use a photo book for a guest book at your wedding. What pictures do you use? Pictures from before the wedding? That doesn't really make any sense to me. "Here's a photo album of us before we got married, signed by everyone at the wedding." Just weird to me. Plus, I want something I can hang up and look at, not a little book that's going to be on a shelf or shoved in a drawer.

We had a mix of our engagement photos and photos we'd taken with friends and family over the years. It was nice to read a message from my cousin next to a picture of me dancing with my cousin at my brother's wedding, for example. Not everyone sought out pictures of themselves, but it was pretty cool when the messages matched up to the various photos.

The guestbook is for us to look at when we feel like reminiscing, so it was placed on a shelf with our wedding album. I never really care about random messages from strangers when I want to see someone's wedding stuff, so it's not important to me to display it for others to look at. If they want to see it, it's right next to our album, and they can page through it if they wish.

That said, I do like the posters, quilts, etc. It's just not my style. I didn't mean that as a criticism. :)
  • We have a poster too - it is a panorama of the Vegas skyline at night, with a white border so guests can write messages. There isn't that much space, so messages will have to be short and sweet ;-)
  • How are you going to display it during your reception?  I wouldn't imagine you could really travel with a frame, and I don't want a poster to be rolling around since it's been a tube.
  • Good question!!

I was planning to lay it flat on a table, and hope that Maggiano's had some ideas on how to keep it from rolling up. I will ask them now.... ;-)

Roll it up in the other direction. Like, if it's rolled so the picture is "inside", roll it so the picture is "outside" the day of the reception (and then unroll it right away). It should lay pretty flat at that point, and you can always use votive candles or pretty paperweights to hold the corners down.

Ooh. If you could find some heavy dice, those would be cool paperweights. :)
  • We are using a large coffee table book of old Las Vegas, packed with single and double page large format photos. It will pack easily and guests can sign on different pages using metallic pens.

Lots of beautiful oversized books on Amazon - look for the photo journalist section!
