DIY Chevron table cloths?

Gals, Looking for ideas or past experience on decorating table cloths/fabric. I've found beautiful blue chevron tablecloths that would work perfectly for my wedding but at $55each (rental price) I'm wondering if I can do better on my own. I'm thinking of buying a cheaper off white cloth or even burlap and using a rough bristled large painters brush and a cardboard template to do my own chevron patterns on them. It'll be sort of like a white-washed look with streaks which is fine with me. Does anyone have experience with something like this? thanks

In the same way I think the chevron pattern is ok for an accent wall but not an entire room, I think a chevron pattern on an entire table cloth would make me dizzy.

That said, have you considered a table runner:

It would save you money, not be "too busy" and you wouldn't have to make a bunch yourself.

I loved the look of chevron table cloths but a whole room might be mich. Maybe just do a few tables. That being said, I'm not very familiar with fabric paint but anything I've seen that has been painted is stiff. Can you avoid that? If not would it be bothersome to you?
