YAY!!! We booked our honeymoon

H and I booked our honeymoon, last night. I am so excited!  We are going to Nice, France for a week. (He has a work meeting there, as his company is based out of Nice.)  I won't see him all week, but I can keep myself occupied in France!  Our honeymoon doesn't start until the next week. We are going to Italy for 10 days. Lmao. I will be gone for 17 days. SHIT!  I didn't realize how long we would be gone, until now! Guess I should get my cat sitter something really nice!
We originally weren't going to go on a honeymoon but  he gets a free flight to Europe (because of work), and I got a free flight from credit card points. So we only have to pay for our hotel in Italy, food in Italy, and my food in France. Plus due to the generous gifts from our wedding guests, we have some extra spending money. We weren't going to take a honeymoon, and never planned it until after the wedding when we realized we could, after all. So brides, don't do a honeymoon registry, your guests will always give money, and they will be more kind when you aren't demanding. (Not to mention you won't have to pay a service charge for the gift your guest was going to give you, anyway).
I am telling you, I feel so relieved, because once the honeymoon is over, I will go of the pill, and we can try to have a baby. (Periods are terrible, didn't want to go off the pill on our honeymoon, and ruin our trip being sick.) And after the honeymoon, I am updating my resume to get a new job!  I am so excited about what it is to come, and I am really grateful.

  • Fabulous!! Sounds like you will have an amazing time.
  • That's awesome!!  I love Nice and that whole area.  Make sure you go to Monaco, just for a look around.  It's beautiful in that region

  • Yay!!! Have a wonderful time!

  • That sounds like an awesome honeymoon, congrats!

A word of caution, though (which you probably already know but I'm including JIC). You can't plan on cash gifts, to cover a honeymoon or anything else. I got married in June, invited 185 people, 105 attended and got 3 cash gifts totalling less than $300. We got a few gift cards as well. I'm not complaining - we aren't owed anything just for getting married and we got some really lovely gifts from on and off our registries, but I was surprised by how few people chose to give money. So definitely don't book a trip expecting to bring in a big haul to pay for it!
  • That sounds incredible! All of it! I'm sure you'll get plenty of practice for future babymaking endeavors. ;);)

  • Oh, no. We didn't expect any gifts, but were really surprised when we got them. We did not book a honeymoon, until after the wedding. H got a raise, we received a bunch of generous gifts, and our flights were free. Don't book a honeymoon until you know you can afford it. For us, we didn't know until a month after the wedding
  • Your honeymoon sounds AMAZING!! Italy is my dream vacation, my FI is in school to be a pilot so I'm kinda counting on the day when he gets a big pilot job to get me free flights :)

  • Awesome!  Nice is so beautiful.  My sister was living over there last year, working in a patisserie, so I went over to visit for two weeks.  It's a great place to walk around and explore by yourself.  Make sure you go to Fenocchio for some gelato!  We ate it everyday, lol.

Also, I second the notion that you should go to Monaco for a day to explore.  It's just a quick train ride away.
  • wow sounds like an amazing honeymoon!

OMG so jealous! I have never been to Italy but I've been all over France and am obsessed with France. I hope you love it. Yay! Have an amazing time!
  • Thanks Ic07.  I love France. I have only been there once, but it is like finding your second home the first time you visit.
  • So jealous. It sounds amazing! I'm trying to convince my FI to do a 3wk HM across Europe but he's a beach guy so I don't know if I'll be able to budge him.

Nice and the amalfi coast are gorgeous. If you make a couple stops on the Mediterranean, I'm sure he will enjoy it, immensely
