So you guys know I've been struggling with gaining weight because I keep eating ALL THE THINGS and drinking too much alcohol. Well, I've also been working out a lot and, drumroll please:

Today I got up and held my first headstand on my paddle board out in the ocean! It was really hard! And I'm super proud of myself.

 I think I earned a nap.

What are you guys up to this weekend?

Edited: To try to create paragraphs I originally typed.

Re: AW: Weekend Accomplishments

  • That's awesome, and it sounds like a nap is in order.

This morning I went to the DragonCon parade (people in various scifi costumes - not really my thing, but how often do you get to see a storm trooper dressed as jack sparrow??) and now I'm just hanging out at home. FI is at a bachelor party all day and I'm keeping busy cleaning all the things.

Fun! I live in San Diego so every year we get Comic Con and see similar crazy costumes. It freaks me out actually. I was working at a hotel downtown one year and all these GI Joe guys with (fake?) guns are walking around everywhere.
  • I am all about napping. It's one of the few things I can still do and enjoy :)

I am watching college football with DH right now. Earlier, the auto transport came to pick up DH's car to take it to Texas. Not sure what we'll do later, but I know we have some cleaning to get done.

  • I will be super-fucking-duper excited if I got this headache to go away. I don't know if my fall allergies are starting up already or what but this shit is ANNOYING.

    I'm the fuck
    out.

  • My kids were in a Tamil wedding today and I was such a proud mama!!!

Tomorrow I'm pressure washing and painting the front porch and getting stuff ready for kids going back to school. Monday is cleaning the house and Tuesday is back to school...YAY!
  • @LDay2014 OMG they look ADORABLE!!!

    Look...yes, look. Don't be deceived
  • I had to work today.. and then I napped because I thought I was starting to get sick.

It turns out I was getting a case of the over-dramatics, easily cured by a nap and snuggling with my pup.

I am now in magical hostess mode, starting my prep for tomorrow's brunch by getting champagne and vodka for screwdrivers/mimosas.  I am waiting for my dough to rise, I'm making challah bread for the first time.  I also need to find the right french toast casserole recipe.

I'm really excited to have people over for brunch; FI and I don't live near any close friends (or friends who don't have kids.. our house isn't very child friendly), and our schedules are weird, so having people over is tough.

I am also contemplating downloading a new song for my long run tomorrow... I might just switch up my playlist, but I'm just not overly jazzed about running in the am.

  • Sometimes it's the little things. I just vaccumed for the first time since April! Now I'm exhausted. LOL

    LDay the girls look beautiful!

Jells, I hate vacuuming! Even with dealing with cancer, unfortunately your mobility has been so limited that it's not surprising that every day tasks are exhausting. I'm impressed you were able to do it at all. And YAY FOR FOOTBALL SEASON! I'm such a happy girl.

HikeBike - I wanna come to your brunch! It sounds amazing! Is it a special occasion?

Beethery - so I went to the doctor's earlier this week to do the allergy talk/test thing. It's no fun. It's amazing how awful allergies can make you feel.
  • @Ic07  It's no special occasion.  I just get really excited when FI and I can have people over.  And I get excited for brunch.

    I'm also making:
    Home fries
Mini quiches with mashed home fries instead of regular crust
Brown sugar and chili bacon in addition to regular bacon
Fruit salad (because I like to maintain the illusion that I'm healthy-ish)

... and FI says that I'm making an excessive amount for 4 people.  Pffffffttttt.

If I feel like a fattie at my dress fitting on Monday, I will have nobody to blame but myself.

No. It sounds amazing. H and I go all out when having guests over. Heck we'd go all out making a 5 or 7 course dinner just for ourselves on a random Tuesday night. It's fun!

As for the bolded this sounds amazing! I just got officially diagnosed as allergic to gluten. I think I'm supposed to be careful about how many eggs I eat too because that was labeled "sensitive" for me, but I totally want to make this. Do you have a recipe you like?

    Edited: to make more sense
  • Cranking out the wedding checklist. Final dress fitting, assembled the kids' packs, stamped and embossed the tags for the favors, printed programs, made ring bearer pillow, made liner for flower girl basket, typeset escort cards. Still on my list for this weekend is printing and stamping the escort cards, finishing stitching the lace on my veil, and starting to pack for the honeymoon! TWO WEEKS YOU GUYS!

I do not have a specific recipe.. I'm kind of mixing some together- if they are yummy I will give you the recipe!!

As for the eggs- is it to the entire egg?  My friend just got some allergy testing done, and her sensitivity was to the yolks.  Perhaps switching to egg whites would reduce any issues?

Thanks! That's a good idea. And yes, please follow up with the recipe if you like it or what you would have changed if you didn't!

I didn't do a physical test for eggs since it wasn't something we were super suspicious of creating the problems I was having. But I explained the reaction I get while eating them and my doctor said to just limit them. It didn't seem worthy of testing. I didn't know about the egg white vs yolk thing. I will try that and see if it helps!

Am currently drinking white wine and planning for the temple open house that DH is dragging me to tonight. Hopefully they'll let me film.
Is this a new temple? You and your H are LDS, right?

I remember when I was little we got to tour a new LDS temple before it was consecrated? (Is consecrated the right word?) Unfortunately I remember nothing except that we were to wear plastic booties throughout the tour to cover our feet.

Do you expect they'll let you film?

Thanks! There are pics of the basket and pillow on the new DIY board. I'm sure I'll AW the crap out of everything sooner or later. :)

  • I napped half the day because my sinuses are full of goo. Really hope I feel better by Monday.

  • Sorry to dig this up, but I figured that this was a good place to share the recipes that I used!

For the challah bread I used this recipe from King Arthur flour: http://www.kingarthurflour.com/recipes/classic-challah-recipe
I highly recommend it. It was my first time making challah and it came out really well!

    So. Good.

For the home fries that were the bottom of my quiche: http://www.thekitchenwhisperer.net/2013/05/05/ultimate-crispy-home-fries/
Super tasty!  I did omit the peppers, based on my guest's preferences.. but dang were they good!

The home fries I would have undercooked a little bit and then baked at a low temp to dry them out prior to adding the quiche mixture.  But they were yummy!
